Skied Poubelle Couloir off Grands Montets today. OK at the top (light breakable crust), nice in the middle, heavy crust at the bottom. Very nice snow once joining Pas De Chevre. Fxed rope in the exit couloirs to pass one very rocky section, otherwise just some small rocks to avoid. Bootpack to the James Bond track is very well established now, and the James Bond has full cover of very firm snow.

    Nice one LC, a classic.

Skinned over to Hellbroner for an Italian VB, nice day out but wind has ripped pretty strong up high.

Call me stupid, but does anyone else feel that this season is becoming a carbon copy of 2010/11? Yes, I realize there was snow in November that season, but it seems that the snow has dwindled off at about the same time, here in the east at least.... Looks like I will be heading to France in Jan at this rate, unless the weather situation changes....

Lorne Cameron: Chamonix Ski Blog - Deep Envers

First trip of the winter up the Midi this morning. Deep and very light, too light I'd say! Any other snow reports from the valley?

Managed to find some good snow today around Valfrejus. Had good turns in Savoie over the last week.

    Congrats, mang!
Does he look more of a Telemarker, randoneur or...cough...splitboarder???

Btw, been really out of the loop this winter.
Things seem to be snowise quite good in the isere/cham/verbier corner, but suck in the eastern austria/dolomites/innsbruck?
    Or?

Coming south for few days on 17th or so, and contemplating if there is any sense to get the plane tickets to munich or
or play it safe and fly to milan/grenoble/zurich...

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Posted a question about early March a few weeks ago, but have a quick follow up (ignorant yankee). Headed to Verbier from March 2-5 and staying with friends there. Then had planned to meet up with friends in Val d'Isere for another 3-4 days, but most lodging is full (vaca week). We have the option to stay in Sainte Foy, which looks great, but am still nervous about crowds there and in Val, due to the vacation week. I think Ste Foy would be relatively less crowded, but will Val be THAT bad? Might Zinal be a better option (and closer to Verbier)? We wouldn't have the friends to meet up with if we went there, but might be far more mellow. Want to be able to get guides and experience all possibilities at any of these places, but don't want to be blocked out due to crowds. Will have my girlfriend (intermediate) who's easy going when it comes to these things, but don't want to disappoint on location choice. Thanks all.

while things have been quite good in the western alps, they do not exactly suck in the eastern alps. tyrol has been quite ok and dolomites have been looking good as well. even salzburgerland should be nice after the recent storm...
that said, i would still pick the western alps atm.
