Couple of close calls at the hellbronner yesterday and today.
Today I watched someone go for a big ride down the main gully where the avi fences are below the pavillion. I was standing on the spine that insects the 2 drainages and had just ridden the face where it released maybe 10 seconds before. He was ok, lost both his skis and when his partner went to drop in after him he released the hangfire and went for a ride down the same drainage.
Yesterday I was going through the exit gully after skiing a relativly low angle tree line and another party triggered a huge slab on a face above me. I heard what sounded like a gun shot, dove for a tree on the side of the gully and was blasted by a powder cloud. All was well but I decided to call if after that.
Still really sketch, even below treeline.

Skied a ***TOP SECRET*** spot in CH close to Verbier today and had untracked in the trees all day with pretty much no one else out

4 dead in the meantime. One person died in the hospital.
Not much details out at the moment, so I am sorry to armchair quarterback here already a bit:
I am just noticing quite often that bigger groups are following none of the basic rules out in the backcountry.
In this case at the Vilan: Why would you be out with 7 people on an avalanche prone slope at the same time during the descent?
Please follow some simple rules and put only one person at harm at a time.
If something goes wrong you have a very good chance to dig this person out.
No chance if 7 get swept away at once....... then only luck decides who will survive. In this case this definitely was not on their side.
My condolences to friends and families.
RIP.

iridepow, shit. and yeah, 7 people getting caught makes you wonder... The incident on Valluga two weeks or so ago (with the guided group of 7, 4 caught, 2 dead) was another one of those. In that case word is that it's common practice for guides to have people wait together in the face because the problem of exposure is considered more problematic than the unlikely event of the whole face ripping out.
One person rescued alive and apparently not majorly hurt after being buried for 45min in Salzburg today. Another couple of slides reported in Salzburg today, one burial where the person's ski partner dug them out. 7 reported slides in Tirol (sounds like nobody hurt so far), all on popular skitours.Ich bitte dich nur, weck mich nicht.

Ehh, that all looks okay (if you like that sort of thing), but who needs 50cm of blower pow when you can have three inches of the slickest Warwickshire red clay to lay down some fresh tracks through...
No avalanches here, either.
But no, on a more serious note, trail running still sucks several flavours of ballsack. I'm so glad winter has arrived for everyone, just make sure you enjoy it responsibly.Short stories about snow and rock, and pictures, too
