Poked around a bit in the Muotathal, central Switzerland.
Above 1500 m already pretty good on the meadows, when you avoid the rocky slopes.
Below 1500 m still really a rough ride.

Could use another top up really (this weekend?), but still a few nice turns to be found between chop and crust this morning.

Skiied Flumserberg yesterday, was stormy as hell, but pretty fun mellow pow in the trees lower down. Sounds like next weekend is shaping up nicely...

While most of the guys in Austria, France and Switzerland are already skiing some pow, I'm still stuck in Bulgaria only mountain biking.. So I decided to go through the GoPro footage from last year for a short season edit. Location - Tirol, Austria + one FWQ run from Andorra. It was probably the worst snowfall year but still we were able to ride quite a bit now that I think about it.. should be around 100 days. So yeah - lack of snow is just an excuse

    Austrians.
Can i kindly ask for suggestions - as i don't know that side of alps so well.
Looking for a small resort for family ski trip next Feb.
    Criteria...

    1) Good nursery slopes for 4 years old boy.
    2) Quiet / small / non-commercial resort.
    3) Some fun pistes, trees or side country where parents can ski some laps solo.
    4) Accessible on train from Munich or Salzburg airports.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

    Haggis,

Link in German for family ski resorts
    https://www.snowplaza.de/themen/fami...he-skigebiete/

Serfaus is great for family, advanced piste skiing and a fair bit of offpiste but it's close to switzerland (exchange rate makes it popular for the swiss) so not cheap.

Never skied Ellmau but heard it's good for points 1,2 & 4 on your list, doubt it has much for your point 3.

Warth-Schröcken could well be the answer, a family ski resort linked to this

Hey There Euro Mags, anybody have a line on other ski forums that are in German? The Snow for the Euros seems pretty quiet these days....

On a positive note, its dumping in the Alps!

@DB - thanks for the links and interesting suggestions.
Find it hard looking at Austrian piste maps.
Ski areas from 800m-1500m seem low altitude ? (compared to western alps)
However I guess Austria being further east means they are reasonably snow sure for Jan / Feb ?

there is freeskiers.net (good for gear swap) and there is powderguide.com - I love the site but Snow for the Euros is really crowded compared to that place.

Let's try to bring the stoke back in here. I hope I can get some pictures for you next weekend as it is dumping!

Gastein should be perfect, ski from 850 to 2600 mt, three villages each with its distinctive flair. Directly connected by train from Munich or Salzburg only 1,25h away.

Yesterday was awesome at the Flumserberg. Skiied all the mini-chutes with 30+cm fresh, what a great way to start the season! Click image for larger version.

Usually yes but higher is safer. Some local ski resorts (east Austria) recently took out their lower lifts (below 1000m).
If you are going to go that low I'd make sure you are not that far from a higher resort (e.g. glacier) just in case the weather turns warm.

fs has a more active forum, pg's forum is kind of broken since the relaunch but was never particularly active anyway. If you ask something in either place you are likely to get some sort of response.

Serfaus is high, but generally rather dry. There is great terrain, is large, known for their kids programs, but have been 3x in early Jan and everytime was basically a bust. Just not enough snowfall. It ends up being crowded hard packed pistes with a 6 pack lift for just 1 overtaxed piste since there isn't enough snow. If there is snow, I would definitely go back, but if not, look elsewhere. Its not Swiss expensive, but not cheap either.

Don't think the Swiss go there. Its always been Germans, Dutch, and Russians. Its actually a ways from Switzerland as you have to drive through the Arlberg to get there. As the Swiss customs dude told us yesterday, "we can't ski in Austria being from Switzerland, but it sounds fun with their better Apres-Ski." Our old Au Pair who is Swiss would say the same thing. They stay in Switzerland.

I would be very intrigued by Warth-Schroken as their snow record is very good, they have good elevation, and likely not too crowded. Its on my list for a future trip.

The Swiss going out of their country is very dependent on exchange rates. I know a few who are regulars in Serfaus.

yeah, actually quite a lot of swiss in austria nowadays. its so much cheaper for them, that they even leave their country... lots swiss resorts are slowly getting in trouble, especially since the germans start to stay away because it is just so expensive nowadays...

It is a hell of a lot cheaper in Austria so makes sense, just hasn't been my experience.

Time for some more stoke! Engelberg was EPIC Monday, about 40cm fresh on the glacier and suprisingly stable all things considered. So stoked to be able to ski like this in November!
