Ski Salt Lake Shoot Out TR and contest
First of all I can't write/say "Ski Salt Lake Shoot Out" without "Catalina Wine Mixer" coming into my head. But I shall press forward.
I had the good fortune of being an athlete for the Ski SLC Shoot Out again this year. Those of you in Utah know we've had a burly ice layer and generally dry January, but prior to that the season has been great and coverage is awesome.
Coming into the Shoot Out conditions weren't great, but then a little storm the night before the event became a pretty good sized storm. It dropped 16" of fresh overnight and the next day dawned blue. I was slated for early lift rides at Alta and was pretty much coming unglued, but in LCC a good thing can easily become too much of a good thing and road closures kept us from getting our early lift access.
I spent two frustrated hours on 210, but knew it was all going to be worth it once we got there. It was. I completely lost myself on that first run. No responsibilities (job mortgages, etc...)... My mind went blank. I forgot about the photographer and just regressed to a kid on the playground. Then I reached my teenage years was quite pleased with the way the snow tickled my balls and then repeatedly slapped me in the face.
We all worked out the hostility of the canyon wait on that first run and then we went to work.
I'm writing way too much and it's Valentines Day. Jesus... I'm only through one run on the first day. I'm just going to post some photos now and come back to this later with more words and images later. It was a kick ass and tiring week.

PS if you want to vote for our team go to the link below and pick the lawndart photo. BTW, when you vote you are automatically entered to win a Utah Ski Vacation. And while I can't spend the winnings on hookers and blow I will spend it all on liquor and throw a maggot party if we win this thing. Please spread the link like herpes.

EDIT... The photos should be larger now. I'll come back to work on this again soon. I've still got more Alta photos and all of the Solitude shots to post as well as more writing to do.Last edited by meatdrink9; 02-15-2011 at 09:38 AM.

That's some solid work right there. Stoked to see more of them.

Nice dude, any of those winners? I imagine those conditions made for some stiff competition and amazing photos as you've shown...

I just voted for the lawn dart. It appears that you are trying to huck from Alta to Brighton. Now thats a sic gap.

Thanks guys. It was a fun and tiring 4 days. I did take the lawndart too big and managed to find that ice layer after dropping about 50 feet of vert. The photo doesn't really show the size. It hurt, but not too bad as I hiked back up and threw another invert off a smaller feature. You definitely come out of week like this one bruised and battered.
Coldsmoke, we didn't win the portfolio contest (only 3 of these images were entered). There was some stiff competition for sure. Always a super talented group in this event.
There's just one contest left and that's the fan vote for Facehookers. This aspect of the Shoot Out is the only one where an athlete can actually win. The link is below. If you like the athlete action on the lawndart feel free show it some love... and you're entered to win a Utah Ski Vacation at the same time.

I'll be back with more text and photos soon. I should have shots from Solitude and a few more Alta landing in my inbox anytime.
We did a ton of hiking, but it was awesome seeing all the terrain between all the resorts in the Cottonwoods. There is so much terrain (lines, cliffs, etc...) really easily within reach once the hoards pillage the inbounds stuff.
