Classic Youtube Ski Racing Videos-gettin it started with The Kaiser at the Hahnenkamm

    Post em up!

In honor of the upcoming Hahnenkamm downhill I thought I'd get this thread started with Franz Klammer, "The Kaiser" in what he called his greatest victory, in the twilight of his career, the 1984 Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm downhill. They just don't make courses like this any more...check out how bumpy it is.

Klammer won 8 of 9 downhills in 1975 and 10 straight downhills in 76-77. He went on to race Touring cars at a high level in Europe and had a victory. Bode Miller cites his style and approach to skiing as a major inspiration.

    All hail The Kaiser:

Damn! I was going to post that '76 Klammer clip. I was lucky enough to have caught that on teevee back in the day. It still gives me goosebumps.

what gives me goosebumps is how uneven the terrain was (compared to what we know today to be normal DH terrain). damn he had a shock absorber in his uphill leg, didn't he? flew like a butterfly over them...

is this considered "classic" yet? he changed slalom/gs like nobody else before him:

and then he went on to film skiing powder on skinny skis and flailing a 360 spin for Warren Miller
