Vibes to all involved. The guy at disco was a ski school instructor apparently. Be safe out there everyone.

was the death at disco today, or the one on 12/29. he hit a tree while skiing on a blue run.

don't be scared. given that on some days there can be over a million skiing at north american resorts there are bound to be deaths at mountains on an almost daily basis, both skiing related or not. think of how many deaths there are in a day for any city of 500,000.
then throw in the many thousands of skiers, boarders, and sledders in the bc every day now. the odds haven't changed, just the number of players.

    Vibes to the families involved.

Honestly I'm not sure what scares me more, tree wells or avalanches.

As I understand it, both of the tree well deaths in Whitefish were in the same area; a relatively flat gladed area off of the upper T-bar.

No idea about the ability of the skiers that died, but that area tends to attract a lot of powder seeking gapers - plenty of powder stashes and the terrain isn't intimidating.

As mentioned above, 1 avy fatality near hungry horse reservoir yesterday. Apparently there were three separate slides and 11 buried. I think they were on snowmobiles. We were out for some cautious BC laps today. It blows me away what some of the snowmobiles were doing; highmarking an open slope within 100 yards of a fresh 3 ft. tall crown. Same aspect and everything.
