Anybody Know This Gaper (CO Avy Related)
From the CAIC avy report yesterday:
"Today a snowboarder in the N mtns was caught in two separate slides. The first one was on Torreys Peak, 3.5 miles SE of Loveland Pass, where he was buried to his waist. He later triggered a slide above timberline (TL) on Loveland Pass, was swept down through the rocks but was not buried or injured. No other fresh slides have been reported so far today."
What kind of gaper gets buried to the waist and then goes out and gets slid again. I'm sorry but it seems like darwin is trying to tell this guy something. If carrots got you drunk; rabbits would be fucked up.

Best radio reports for the Loveland avalanche were "in Loveland Bowl below a cornice" and "in the minedump area".
So the guy either was all the way around by the trees or maybe under Idiots cornice or the part that wraps around after it.
They stood it down fairly quickly.
You'd think somebody would get the picture after being caught the first time.Originally Posted by blurred

does anyone know if he was on a similar aspect and slope angle for the second one? you'd think that he'd have played it safe back to the car. you can still hit a pocket on the way out while taking it easy, but it sounds like this guy may have center punched another wide open slope. anybody got a link with some details?

his second slide wasn't on the way out from the first.
he got out all the way, then drove up loveland pass and started hiking for his second ride.Originally Posted by blurred

damn, that's one inept person. very driven, but not so bright. maybe he was looking for a thrill and seeking out some trouble. either way, darwin is calling his name.

I saw this fucktard....my friend and I watched him ride out to the danger zone and knew it was gonna slide....then he stopped and sat down and looked like he was gonna change his mind....so we did a run in the trees and on the ride back up i looked and the face was gone.....i was sure he was buried and probably injured.....
we try to look for him with binocs before heading out to start probing....
a few seconds later some guys drive up and says he rode out of it.....the idiot rider says something along the lines of "It was totally rad, I RODE OUT OF IT!"
heres a pic (sorry for the shitty quality, its from a video capture)

Slightly off topic, but related to idiots.
Stoy and I were sledding down after a great day in the BC and came across a herd of 19-20 year old idiots. There was a Bronco type suv on the snow covered road with a chump laying behind it strapped to a snowboard. He was screaming, etc.
Turns out he was getting towed behind the rig, somehow ended up in front of it, then got ran over.
What an ASS! He must have been unhurt, because he never checked into the ER that night. (I checked the logs).
Another lucky bastard. These guys were probably up skiing sans beacons, etc. earlier that day too.
There's an ass around every corner.
