I also remember a fork like contraption one could buy, but then you supplied your own shock absorbing material.
The shock absorber this device was designed for? Bungee cords
I wish I could remember the name so I could find an image, this thing was ridiculous.

Lizard Skins shock / fork protectors. Actually, most Lizard Skins products were dumb. Like their headset protector that was pretty much a sponge, and just ensured that your headset stayed wet all the time.
The Halson Inversion Fork.
Any auto-shifting bike. Landriders come to mind, but there are others.

10 speed for mnt bike. I like the 36T rear, but do you really need 10 gears, over 9, when the high and low are still the same?

^^^ Thumbshifters, OTOH, are my favorite shifter of all time. I wish Shimano would bring them back, and in 9-speed.

unless you enjoy it taking 3 days to overhaul your pivots.a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Thats the weakest fucking cop out ever, I always laugh at that one. Granted there aren't a lot of saplings where I ride, but it's tight single track defined by actual trees (unlike you Westerners who define singletrack by where the grass has been worn down) and yeah I've gotten caught on branches a few times, but only a few times in many years and never with disastrous results.
What happens when you crack your hand with a sapling at 25Mph? Aren't the results equally crappy?

Mechanical advantage. That being said, a LOT of this development was designed in California, where mud wasn't usually an issue. They worked pretty well in dry climes, and definitely had more power than the standard cantilevers of the day.
