DSO again with an elective set which was a great ride, especially the 2nd Set. Not sure that Morning Dew could be played better in 2022 by anybody else, it’s as close as my Kid will ever get to the original magic. Kid loved seeing it front and center on the rail… Mind blown and mission accomplished as a Dad.

Went and saw Santana the other night, figured I'd see Carlos one more time before one of us dies. The concert was orginally scheduled for 2020, then rescheduled to 2021 and now finally happened. Somewhere along the way, Earth, Wind and Fire got added to the bill.

Never been a big Earth, Wind and Fire guy. But they were fun. You know every song, you're heard them all a million times, and there's a bunch of them. Those guys are showmen, they have a great act and it worked.

Carlos was Carlos. I mean I like Carlos. Never been that that huge on him but hey he's Santana, he's an icon. He seemed happy and healthy and generally upbeat.

Saturday we went to the Backroad Blue Festival in Providence, opening date of a little tout they're doing. I went to see the Kingfish mainly. Christone Ingram. And he did not disappoint, that guy is amazing.

Then Kenny Wayne Shepherd played. I mean he's good at guitar. Can't say I'm a big fan but he's good at what he does.

Final act was Buddy Guy. What a hoot. 86 years old and full of vinegar. Tough band, including another guitarist who ripped at times. Buddy didn't play a ton but what he played sounded good. And he was having fun. That guy is cool.

Christone Ingram is the real deal with a blues guitar

Carlos' wife Cindy on drum kit? She's the real deal as well - has played with a bunch of jazz greats including Pharoh Sanders

Yeah this was the third time I've seen Christone. The real deal is an understatement imo, unreal is more like it. And his voice keeps getting better and better too, he's really been working on that part of his game.

Yeah it was Cindy on drums, she was on top of it. The whole band was good, tons of percussion as you'd expect, with her leading the way.

Made me realize again that there are lots of good musicians out there walking around mostly unnoticed around us. Lead guitar player ripped.

Aron Magner formed a group Damn Wrong due to an issue with Spaga not being able to perform…

Fun seeing them working it all out on the spot and collaborating in real time. I did get to talk to Magner afterwards and thank him for his part in the Billy and the Kids shows at Red Rocks last Summer. He was very nice and gracious with his time while I chatted him up.

I’d been listening to their shows for a month or so prior to get a handle on them… mostly smoking Sativa and cleaning up my garage/shop. They threw down live, but my Kid and I agreed that when they are the primary focus, ‘beat fatigue’ is a real thing and Disco Biscuits are best for us a background music for projects or workouts. We still danced our asses off! Props to the drummer though for the energy and stamina to drive the band. Gotta be like jumping rope for an hour straight each set!

They did play an ‘I Know You Rider’ Dead cover during Set 1 which made this old guy happy and also gave everyone’s neck a rest from bobbing up and down.

And then the 12 hour trip home in the Vanagon with a stop for some disc golf to stretch our legs…

All in all, a great 5 day road trip with the Kid. Depending on next years lineup, I’d definitely go back to this.

Couple of days at home and then back on the road Thursday with my Wife for some Leftover Salmon and Bluegrass festival in Manchester, VT:

Have a great time at GMBR Fest. The missus and I volunteered there are few years ago and were going to again but got sidetracked by an invite to the Vineyard instead.

Wilco show is a week from Weds!

Nice work Single, the only time I saw the Biscuits Mickey and Billy played with them at Gathering of the Vibes. It was okay, I think I listened from a hammock in the back of the venue

Neal Francis last night crushed their set at EWS / Sugarloaf. His sound is old but fresh, band is tour tight.

Go see them on the road supporting Marcus King this fall

Day 2 of the Bluegrass festival started with our own private tiny brunch concert at the door of our van by our field neighbors. They could play! Even let me sing lead on Long Black Veil from bed.

Then into the main stage to see Punch Brothers, Watchhouse, and Sarah Jarosz… Chris Thiele always plays an interesting Mandolin…

And then to cap the night was a full Leftover Salmon electric show. This is what I came for and was not disappointed! I’d seen them a bunch of times way back in the beginning when they were a ski bar band during my time in Colorado in the very early ‘90’s. They’ve been one of the soundtracks of my life and I’m glad they still got it. Slamgrass at its finest!

Day 3 brought Micheal Daves and Friends… not bad when your friends are Jake Jolliff on Mandolin and Alex Hargreaves on fiddle, two of the best of their generation.

And a Leftover Salmon acoustic set to wrap up the day. Drew Emmitt’s lyrics always seem to draw me in and mirror my experiences. I appreciate that.
