    SBCB is a great venue.
Saw many a memorable gig there during my college years—Midnight Oil, Love and Rockets, Steve Miller, Neil Young, Yes.
I even saw Jane’s Addiction there long after college. They didn’t implode at that gig, but opener John Frusciante did!

I wish Sturgill had played some more gigs in NorCal (or closer to Reno) other than Outside Lands.

A co-worker of mine is headed to the Goose gig.
That venue looks sweet (not sure how in all my years living in CAvI never caught a gig there).

Saw Lucinda Williams and Mike Campbell at The Bellweather last night. She did an hour with her band, he did an hour w the Dirty Knobs and then she came back out and they did four more tunes. Catch these two septuagenarians while you can it was great.

We are in Gardnerville. We had to call an audible on the drive to Stanford due to a head on in Hope Valley and went over Ebbetts pass. Frost is a really good spot. Currently waiting for show to start

Grand Sierra is really killing it the last couple years with shows.

We might buy tix and a flight to catch one of the remaining Sturgill shows

I have been in the area going on 16 years now and have only seen one show at the Grand Theater: Bert Kreischer.
I was not a fan of the seats, though thinking I was in the ones they might remove when they have standing. They were too low backed and hurt my ass after an hour.
That said, it’s a nice sized venue and the sound seems to be decent, though using a comedy show as the control isn’t analogous to a band.

I do wish Reno would get more newer acts rolling through. Most of the ones that come through are usually bands I have seen during their prime and don’t have much interest in seeing again.

Also whomever books shows needs to be more aggressive. Neither Virginia Street Brewhouse or Cargo ever seem to host enough shows.
I don’t know if it’s the market, but I always feel that for a college town it’s pretty meager on the variety and frequency of live touring acts when compared to Sacramento or SF or even SLC.
I always have wondered why bands don’t stop in Reno more often while on their way between The Bay and SLC or Denver…

That said, I’ve been having the best luck with small shows at The Holland Project.

Sadly I didn’t make it to their free gig last week in Reno.
Had a buddy from Denver swing through town and he’s not really into live music, so I had to take one for the team and miss the show.

Dude, tickets for that tour are crazy expensive! Not sure about LV, but I briefly thought about seeing them in Denver (even though seeing them at the old Mile High in the 90's was kinda disappointing). Maybe I'm just old and haven't spent much on concert tix in a while. I might make the LV trip if they were playing the Sphere though, they're about the only band that I like that I can see playing there.

It’s a band I’ve loved for decades but have never seen live. I agree with the pricing, it’s insane.

i've waited until the last minute to non sold out concerts and get in cheap. idk if that's the same with metallica but if it's not sold out and undersold you'll get in cheap last second.

edit: i just googled it, it's in april and at the festival ground. festival grounds would blow imho

The last minute ticket dump angle works great if you live in the city where the concert is taking place.
Not so much if you are 3+ hours away…

Talked to some friends about this when they were going to see some greatful dead cover band at the sphere. I mean worst case, you are still in vegas and have a lot more money in your pocket to go throw into slot machines or blow on the Bellagio buffet or something more worthwhile than hanging out with a buncha fucked up pachouli salesmen. Haha.

The 27th Sister Folk Festival concluded yesterday.
33 acts, seven venues, 24 hours of music
    https://www.sistersfolkfest.org/lineup

While it’s billed as a folk festival, it’s really a collection of acts from all over the world in a bunch of genres besides the usual singer-songwriter, guitar/mandolin/fiddle bands

My favorites in no particular order
Michaela Anne - a beautiful voice, reminds me a little of Allison Krause

Next up - Kyshona - deep southern blues with a gospel edge. She blew me away with her lyrics and vocal power

Tropa Magica - one part punk, one part psychedelic surf guitar, one part cumbia, massive energy

    More Sisters Folk Fest

Carsie Blanton - she started out writing love songs but after years of intensive therapy she now writes about politics
    Attachment 501026

    Fantastic Cat - from NYC
Multi-instrumentalists all. Except by their admission none of them can play drums for shit.
They change instruments each song, except at the end they change every verse

    Great act, huge energy.
They poked a lot of fun at white guys in mountain towns for how they dance

    Highly recommended
