Built to Spill tour this summer for the 20th Aniv. of "Keep It Like A Secret". Great band to see live and for newbs, this album is an excellent intro to BTS.

Saw three (3) live shows last week, which is probably the most live music I have seen in a long time.
Show #1:
TWRP @ Holland Project in Reno, NV.
Costume band from Canada that look like rehabilitated villains from Power Rangers who found the music of Zapp as therapeutic. Great show. Great venue.
Show #2:
Atmosphere @ Ace of Spades in Sacramento, CA.
I hadn't seen Atmosphere in at least 11 years and the last time I interviewed them was for their When Life Gives You Lemons... album (circa 2008).
Great sound, solid beats and rhymes, but Slug came off really smug and there were a ton of drunk douchebags in the audience (weaving frat boys, wannabe hipsters, and tatted "thugs"), so I'm not sure how I felt about the show. I will say this, the TWRP show was all-ages, so no alcohol and the crowd was respectful; the Atmosphere show was full bar and people were drunk-as-f%^k and I was sober and realized that drunk folks are kinda lame (and it made me realize how many times I've been seriously lame at shows over the past 20 years!).
Show #3:
Mike Doughty @ The Saint in Reno, NV.
He performed Ruby Vroom in it's entirety and opened with "Super Bon Bon" and "Circles." His backing band (3/7 of opening act Wheatus) was tight as hell and he tweaked a lot of the lyrics. I still love his nasal sandpaper voice.
Going to see Black Mountain in Reno tomorrow and Cypress Hill in Sacto on Friday...Last edited by dookey67; 03-19-2019 at 08:56 PM.

Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

Blew the roof off as hoped. Instrumental that opened the second set was straight fire. Nobody was filming on their phones which was awesome so I didn’t either other than a short stupid clip.

Saw Black Mountain last night in Reno.
This is a band I've been wanting to see for about 10 years now.
Sadly, I was a bit disappointed.
Unbeknownst to me, they got a new singer since their last tour (I scoured the Webz and couldn't find any mention of why Amber Webber left the band since the last albumn and tour).
While the new front woman was competent, she just didn't fit the band's image, imho. She had jet-black hair, over-sized black librarian glasses, and was dressed like a vampire seductress. While she had solid pipes, her range was more soprano as versus the previous lead singer's deep alto (which, imho, was more fitting to the group's overall sound and vibe). She also looked like she should have been fronting a goth metal band or an emo outfit rather than a stoner rock ensemble like Black Mountain.
The band was tight, but the show just never had that certain je ne sais quoi that makes a show truly memorable.
In short, I was about 3-years too late seeing these guys.
Also it was interesting that they were touring in front of a new album (their new album with the new singer doesn't come out until May...most bands usually tour after they release a new album, not 2 months before). Strange to me.

Ghost Light on Friday night at the Turf Club in St Paul. If you're into jam bands playing their own stuff, this is one of the best new bands I've seen in years. The band chemistry is other worldly and fascinating to watch - each of them seems to get so much joy in watching another take it someplace cool.
