We were at Macrae on Sunday too. That dog (I think it's the same one) wasn't too sure about us back at the parking lot!
With this heavy snowfall tonight, I'd be surprised if you could make it up to Macrae tomorrow in a truck. A few vehicles were sliding off the side of the FSR on Sunday. Luckily though all ended up in small ditches that were easy enough to power out.Last edited by Dr. Crank; 11-15-2010 at 08:02 PM.

For weather maps, tons and tons of weather maps, I use Mountain Weather Services. I took a weather course with this guy for a teacher, his website is great!! Just go to the links section for all the different weather maps.

I just started following this guy's blog on accuweather. He's got some great detailed analysis videos: http://www.accuweather.com/blogs/and...-this-week.asp
Been up McCrae and Sale so far, but I think things look good for the pass this week.

Went up north of Pemberton for the weekend. Had pretty good conditions but a bit of a hike in and out.

yeah liking that shot! a friend just told me that there's already 10 cm at the lodge ( Island Lake Lodge). Top of the Bear Chair is similar elevation as Kootenay Pass, so that bodes well. It's pissing in the Elk valley since 5 pm and is expected to turn to snow soon. Might be worth a drive to Kootenay Pass if it doesn't Fernie factor here. Bring it Griz!

yeah but not much on my deck this morning- hopefully much more up top. Pfft, heavy snowfall warning my ass.
Webcam looks to have about 10-15 cm more than at 4 o'clock yesterday. Maybe that trip to KP may be necessary after all."if it's called tourist season, why can't we just shoot them?"

Silver star got hammered yesterday and it looks like a lot more coming this week.
Any word on the Gorge? I wouldn't be surprised if it would be skiable this weekend. It was holding a ton of snow last november when other areas had very little.www.skevikskis.com Check em out!

/\ That sounds like an adequate base.
You may be right about the gorge. Any word on access this winter? I've been hearing not-too-promising rumours.
But that's all it is right now, rumours.

Yeah there are always rumours about the road, I have heard both.
Going to do some digging and see if I can find out. Sometimes early season you can still get up there with a good truck.www.skevikskis.com Check em out!

Kootenay Pass condition update
Presently 60 cm snow pack at the summit parking lot.
Another system starting tomorrow with another possible 30 cm Wednesday night with a high of - 5 C on Thursday.
Things are definitely starting to look like winter, fingers crossed."A lack of planning and preparation on your part does not make it an emergency on my part."

the Teo - Kootenay Pass is also known as the Salmo Creston Hwy. It is west of Fernie on Hwy 3 through Cranbrook then Creston then up the hill approx 45 minutes to the summit depending on weather. Creston is 125 miles and 2 1/2 hours from Fernie.

cancel trip to Kootenay Pass, my deck this morning has about 10-12 cm on it and it's snowing harder now. Forecast is for 20-30 cm today. Here's hoping!

Just called the forestry office and the gorge FSR is not being plowed this year. Shitty deal! Guy laughed and asked me if I wanted to telemarking there......

Well that's too bad. Good to know in any case, thanks for passing along the info. I guess there will be longer days on the road this season, I'll have to do Rogers instead.
