Seen several CH/OE/DE rigs like that where the owners take special care to wash it regularly. Like almost daily.

I had one for awhile and thought it was a great truck. With the factory G80 locker in the rear axle it was impressively capable. That said, even after I put 32 inch tires on it, the clearance was just so so. It was excellent in the snow. Gas mileage was 15 around town and 17 on the highway.

The truck cost me $500. I put $500 worth of tires on it and the next blew a head gasket! It's gonna cost me another $500 or so to get her back up and running. The camper itself is mostly used or reclaimed lumber. It's framed and sided entirely with redwood that I got for free off craigslist. The floor inside is reclaimed bamboo (about $15). I have a stove, sink and fireplace ready to go in this spring that I scrounged. The windows came out of a junked camper. So far the most expensive part was the metal roofing (about $150) because I just couldn't find any decent metal sheeting. I'm still scrounging foam insulation, and looking around for interior siding. I'll probably spend a few hundred on foam for the beds (queen upstairs, and double in back). All in all, I'll probably spend less than $3000 for everything. You could certainly find something workable for less, but I wanted something I could stand up straight in (I'm 6'4"), a bed I could stretch out in (camper is 7' wide), And has all the stuff I wish my other campers had had. I'm putting in a ski locker, heated boot locker, fireplace, propane heater, some storage cabinets and that's about it. Nothin fancy. I'll keep posting as it all comes together.
Don't ask.... Don't tele

Stayed in my car last weekend and ate smoked salmon (I think this is thread it was mentioned in) anyway it was a great idea and thank you to whoever mentioned it.
On another note where have you guys parked overnight close to crystal? Crystal's overnight lot is $25/night and the spot I had been staying is finally snowed in.

Awesome little rig, I wonder if it's possible to swap in 4x4 parts from donor truck?
A note of caution on the 3.0L V6, you need to be hyper vigilant regarding the coolant system, they had a chronic head gasket failure rate.

For the record, the cooling system is fine....but the exhaust manifold design is flawed. It concentrates heat at cylinder number 6. Every 3.0 head gasket failure is at that location. Headers help move heat away from the block way more efficiently than the stock manifolds, and is about the only way around the problem.

That's a nice Sunrader, from what I can gather, a 4x4 conversion is not really doable. Every once in a while an original 4x4 pops up, usually for big $$$$.
Not a Sunrader but this 4x4 in WY is pretty sweet, just not $20K sweet if you ask me:

Or swap in one of these:
Pretty easy swap for the 3.0
Big thing on the Toy RVs is to make sure is has the full floating rear axle.
Pretty sure a 1990 will have it.
Looks like a nice Rader.
Great rigs, but will require some pretty serious mods if you want to use it for winter camping and have use of the plumbing.

I call you on those Sunraiders and raise you this one...
1981 Toyota Sunraider Motorhome for Sale on KSL for $9359
Motherfucker I didn't need to see that thing.... If I had the scratch that would be parked in my driveway. But I'm close to broke so have at it. Wish there was more info. I'm somewhat local to that and have to make a trip to ogden to pick up some pivot heels so Immah check it out and will report back.

Yeah, not saying the coolant system is flawed, I am saying that a lot of these failed because people didn't properly maintain it. The heads are aluminum, the block is cast iron, when the engine over heats, even a little, the heads heat up and expand faster than the block. The exhaust manifold was an issue, but headers were not a cure to the problem.

Looks cool, that is probably worth what he's asking depends on the quality of the 4by conversion and the condition of the drivetrain.
20r engine is bomber and slow
That's a rare coach style with the non wraparound windows, better than the curved ones. 18s are increasingly rare too.
First thing you need to do is lower it 4" so you can take a sharp curve at more than 10 mph loaded up.

Damn, that's a deal. I found a Pirate 4X4 thread [very] briefly outlining the build, it's got a Lexus V8 under the hood and lots of other goodies. Sounds like the guy had the build done and couldn't pay. Very tempting.

The price seems like more or less the cost of the upgrades with the original RV thrown in.
A little more info on Facebook. There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

1996 Chevy 3500 4x4 Turbo Diesel Ambulance Conversion - $12500 (Truckee)
Since nobody has posted this one, I did. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/rvs/4347568374.html
Is price too high for almost 20 years old and not much in way of beds? Don't let the low miles fool you as ambulances spend a lot of time idling. Might work well for passing miles of stopped traffic on way to Squaw when they open after getting snow.
