No traction plates, no queso or sriracha containers. Not even one serrated shovel. Fail.

There's so much space on the outside to attach all of that, and more.

Any plans to insulate the truck bed and sides of the GFC?

Only used about 3L in the 10L tank and battery pack still had 60% left this AM. Could have run the setup a little warmer I think and still been great all night.

Diesel heater in a box on pic one. I've since located it inside camper with the new silent fuel pump. Been running these heaters for a few years now in our boat in AK, and camper. Never had an issue.

So far the bed has a simple layer of gym flooring. Can't think of an easy/clean way to insulate the bed sides without losing too much space. Everything is curved with a million little bump outs etc.

I think I may put a layer of reflectix on the inside of the alu GFC side hatches. May actually go as crazy as drilling a 3" hole in one of the side GFC panels and installing a blast gate to hook the hot air duct too.

How hard would it be to find a salvage tailgate? You could drill/mount anything you want through/on it and run it during cold weather.

Probably a good idea. I do like my backup camera though which is in the tailgate. Another option would be to make up a plywood and foam backed insert thats the same size as the tailgate and put that in when I setup the heater in the evening and leave the actual tailgate down overnight.

Is it feasible to put insulation between the inner wall (the truck bed inside) and the outer wall (what you see looking at the side of the truck standing next to it)? There's always open space there, but it's open and exposed to the ground beneath. I bet someone out there has tried insulating it with spray foam or similar filler.

A Bed Rug Is actually a good answer for insulation. Bought a used truck that had one and liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

Watch your local Craigslist, Facebook marketplace, etc, and I bet you can find a used one cheap. I've been searching for a hard tonneau for a little bit and there are lots of bed liners, rugs, mats, etc, that go through these sites.

No, no, no - it's a tactical adventure base that can go anywhere and do anything. It's for people who want to travel on their own terms and seek their own adventures — without sacrificing any of the comforts of their garden shed.

$5-6k for a topper, another $300ish for a heater box and parts, $50-100 in parts to pipe and seal the exterior box heater into the topper or $1-200 for a busted up tailgate or an extra plywood tailgate that take up traveling storage space, and insulation that will probably fit poorly and have air gaps for a $100 minimum in DIY supplies and materials…

I’m joking, sort of. I’m rooting for you and your setup WG. I’m just thinking if you took the time you’re trying to insulate your bed with and the parts and put a cost to it, you could put it towards selling a house and have a turn key setup that works well. Or a bunch of them. If it’s something you want to innovate to have it be your design and get the cred for it, more power to you.

My F150 had a bed rug and topper it came with, a river cot and a good sleeping bag and an $80 buddy heater that I ran before bed and when I woke up and I took it down to 0* many times.

To each their own but I’m with NW on this one. Bed rugs are cheaper than Line-X, are soft on gear and body parts for hanging out in the back or your truck, can stand up to hauling wood and gravel, fill every nook, cranny, air gap, and keeps dust out from the tailgate gap on dusty roads, insulates, you can pull it and pressure wash it, and costs $400ish.

Bed rugs also do a nice job of filling the corrugated sections to provide a nice flat base. As a cheaper DIY option you can fill them with foam insulation, add a layer of plywood, then carpet, but at material cost lately? The bed rug seems like a nice option.
