What are you running off the battery in the Astro?

I don't have any solar experience. Google though, there are lot of sites explaining how to set up solar in a RV and how to calculate proper wire sizing, charge times, etc.

Search for Will Prowse on Youtube. He has a lot of good info about DIY solar systems.

Solar is a crapshoot in winter this far north.

The inverter complicates things because you need to convert your AC draw to DC to size the battery.
Will you primarily be using 12vDC equipment (lights, furnace, etc), or using the inverter?
Panel is pretty small, it's pictured in here. I don't really have any more info on it.
I'll probably just be running lights, the fan, and some charging mostly.
Would be cool to run the blender for trailhead blended margs haha.

Maybe a noob question, but does anyone ever use a spray on foam insulation on a van or transit style vehicle?

Or are there problems with that? See most everybody using cut panels.

I wonder if they cut the back out of the cab and how they did the interior. Another example of “why isn’t somebody producing these now?”
edit: I looked at other pics on their account. There is a pass through. Couldn’t find any finished interior pics though. Very professional job.

Expanded spray foam is difficult and can be very messy to apply and expensive if done with rattle cans. It has slightly better R-value compared to rigid polystyrene panels.

Over on the sprinter-source.com forum there is tons of talk on insulation and mixed reviews on using spray foam. some people report it working well, others claim it caused warping of van exterior metal. I used 3 inch thick automotive 3M thinsulate in our van. attached it directly to sheet metal with contact adhesive. Stuffed it behind door panels and pretty much whenever I could get it. Its significantly more expensive than insulation panels, but super easy to work with and Ive been very happy with it. Combined with wall panels and a D2 heater our rig is very warm. I also sandwiched a layer of 1/4 inch minicell foam under the factory floor. another befit of the thinsualte is its a great sound deadener. it knocks down a ton of the road and vibration noise.

you can order it from this guy Hein, he and his wife distribute the product in the US. Ive incorporated several of their other products into our conversion. they are super helpful, give them a call if you have questions

So rad! I guess thats a small bigfoot fifth wheel trailer converted into a custom truck camper. Great idea. Sometimes fifth wheels sell pretty cheap, maybe not with bigfoot/escape though

Yes i went through their ig account. A sunrader it is. They fibreglassed in those front windows eventually. Rock magnets are gone and they added paint. They had to move the truck axle back 11 inches.

Yeah that’s definitely a sunrader body grafted onto an older tundra. I saw pics of one transferred to a T100 a few years ago. That looked a little more natural but I think this one is about as nice as you can expect, considering the camper wasn’t designed to go on this truck. Once it’s painted, it’s gonna look pretty awesome

i went w 1 in pink board on the floor, plywood then carpet

i took r 11 batting and ripped and filled all channels in the promaster, reflectix on the metal, then r 11, then 1/2 in foil face board liquid nailed to sheets of whiteboard for walls. leftover reflectix and r 11 and 1/4 in ply for ceiling.

i'm warm all winter w no additional heat but starting the van in the morning.

i also figured that if selling, one person could take it all down to metal in a couple hrs.

spray foam is a permanent decision.

No interior pics but it looks bare bones. No sink, stove, heater, shitter, shower, etc. For that price, I'd want more than what they're offering, like a FWC.

Hadn’t checked the price, just saw them pop up (no pun intended) on IG and the site sorta had that ‘we’ve only built one proto so far’ borderline vapor ware vibe. Hence my question.
