If anyone's got a nice Sienna they want to sell, I'm in the market after this weekend.
And no I don't need a Tundra, camper, or F350.
I've always wondered about #vanlife.
When you aren't skiing,
what do you do with all your van time?
Is it just endless card games and inet surfing,
or is there a 'community' to connect and associate with?
OH, MY GAWD! ―John Hillerman Big Billie Eilish fan.
But that's a quibble to what PG posted (at first, anyway, I haven't read his latest book) ―jono
we are not arguing about ski boots or fashionable clothing or spageheti O's which mean nothing in the grand scheme ― XXX-er
are you assuming you cannot masturbate in a van?

ok we'll come up with a solution by then makers....
Awd blew up suddenly at 70mph. Rear axle seized and fucked a number of things. Cost to fix is over a down payment on a new rig with a third of the miles. The work is beyond my capacity — esp as it’s my only car.
Sienna looks like I can recreate most of what I liked about my rig in a package a dozen years newer, a third the miles, and higher reliability.
Oh man. Hope you're ok. What a shitty run of luck
Brutal. Let us know if you need help in the used car search. I'm always trolling used car sites.

Leaning this way. Journey kit is well reviewed and has several people with 30k on them w/o sig issues. Question is do I want the additional hassle of AWD if I'm rocking snow tires anyhow?
Interior plan is to mimic astro functionality -- ability to quickly convert from hauling 5, to sleeping 2. Thus far, this dude's fold out setup looks like the slickest option: https://www.mountainpoptop.com/fold-out-bed. Plus some little carpentry project for a table to eat at, a place to sit opposite, and we should be in business.
If you like the hassle of putting on chains more then the hassle of AWD. Get a 2WD. It's cheeper

I never released AWD is a hassle. So a differential flush every 75,000 miles is a deal breaker? Because that is about the only additional complication in the past 30 years of cars.
AWD occasionally necessitates the purchase of 4 new tires
slightly higher fuel consumption year-round
higher initial cost
all worth it IMO to not have to deal with the hassle of chaining up.
PNW / Cali require chaining up w/o AWD. Colorado don't. We just close our highways instead. The standard traction law that goes into effect is met by having snow tires. The very rare Code 16 requires all vehicles have chains--AWD or no. If I was storm chasing out West it'd be different.
AWD is more expensive, more fuel consumption, a bit of extra maintenance, requires a full size spare (Sienna has no default way to handle this as AWD versions ship with run flats and no spaire). Not against it, just not sure if it is really necessary for weekend warrioring in a low-snow state like CO.
Feel free to send things you see -- but primarily looking for sub-100k mi (prefer 50-80) Sienna currently. Leather a plus but not mandatory.
Open to other ideas, but basic requirements are:
- ready to go camper at any time -- no futzing with trailer or loading a camper.
- carry 5, but convert to sleep 2 quickly
- big enough for internal table for some cooking, card playing, beer drinking, mutual masturbation
- not a handful for everyday mountain commutes (I don't want a full size Promaster to be my only car)
- reliable and easily accessible parts.
Bring your dentist funds and let me build you a troop carrier diesel Land Cruiser. All the flat brimmed colorad-bros with their Tacomas will be mega jealous.
