    @jhyatt

I had two GMC Safari vans, loved that vehicle. First one I had was AWD which stopped working and the cost to repair was so high I drove it as RWD for a couple years. Next time I bought an RWD because it's all I could find, those things are a bit of a unicorn in the NE now due to rust issues.

Look for rusty fuel lines, it's a given with those rigs and the lines are $$ to buy. Ultimately I couldn't get a sticker due to the rusty lines.

The sliding door can be an issue, of course what large sliding van door doesn't at some point? Mine was annoying but I could make it close.

If you want to find a good one, they're all on Vancouver Island. I swear I saw a dozen Astros when I was there a few years ago

Thanks. I am going to check it out this afternoon. I ran some numbers and looked at my calendar. I can do without it and continue in the outback/motels but am still curious. It might be a fun project. Remove the cheesy pinstriping, basic build inside with stuff I can move between vehicles (power supply and fridge, etc), and clean it out.
    But I don't want a huge time/money suck.

While that's hilarious, it's not really cool to post that pic in a thread not labeled as NSFW.

Can you put a roof rack or roof box on a conversion top? You just drill into it?

$6500 seems a touch overpriced to buy someone's personal masturbation station IMO. But on the flip side..........my god that Astro is so fucking gross I can't focus to make an another joke, ha.

How much did you spend on the alumarail + fittings for that platform?

    Pretty slick mcphee.

Not sure I ever posted my finished side kitchen cabinet. Running water (12v pump), sink, battery pack (goal-zero type), kitchen wares.

I'm particularly proud of the simple attachment system -- a t-headed bolt goes into the 2nd row seat track. The line helps make sure I keep the bolt correctly oriented when snugging up.

The rug comes out when we're hanging at camp and get's staked down. Really ties the room together.

I couldn’t give you an exact number right now. The extruded aluminum cut to your specs from 8020 is very reasonable. The fittings and hardware is where it starts adding up. It takes a lot of t-nuts, screws, 90’s, and brackets to make it work. There’s fittings they offer that stay hidden and you don’t have to use as much hardware, but the aluminum needs machined (which they offer) and if you can DIY the machining you’d save a bunch.

My advice in using 8020: Use CAD software to design or find a friend who can. Will eliminate mistakes made on graph paper with a pencil. Also allows you to see flaws in design and eases redesign. Don’t buy anything over the 1 inch stuff. I went way overkill with the 1.5 inch for the bench/storage/sleep platform, the fittings and hardware for 1.5” is substantially higher priced.

Smut still on main. Hope this helps. Also, I don’t think I ever showed the sleep setup for two in my van.
Those T-brackets look less hardware-intensuve than the corner brackets I've seen people use. Sturdy?

Advantages of 8020 over just wood? I know it's lighter, but costs more. Just wondering why you used it instead of lumber.

Flat floor? Second gen i think has the flatter floor since the middle seats don't leave the trolleys behind like the 3rd gen. I still have the middle-seat trolleys in, but used some foam flooring to level them out, cutting it to fit around the trolleys. I can remove it back to stock in about 5min either direction.

Used a couple packs of something like this: https://www.amazon.com/We-Sell-Mats-...8VCZS2R5&psc=1

Mine levels up 2-3” starting behind the 2nd row all the way to the back bench before it levels off. Click image for larger version.
