we have a high roof and it is palatial although I was happy as a clam for many years in my old vanagon and eurovan which were standard roof height. But yeah- knowing what I know now, I would recommend as high of a roof as is available.
with availability of vans these days I figured it might be of interest to the gang here with it built out for cold weather already.

I threw in a free jug of power steering fluid with mine . Along with some nice custom cut reflectix.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I’m 6’3” and have spent hundreds of nights and days in a medium roof Transit with significant floor and ceiling insulation and it’s absolutely no problem. When I was new to all this I thought it was important to be able to stand 100% straight up. It’s not. 97% is enough. When cooking or getting dressed or whatever, it’s pretty normal to look down at what you’re doing.

That Transit build on Facebook did make the common compromise (aka mistake) of vertical walls in the bed area, which reduces sleeping room by 8” at least.

I addressed that in my post and previously. It’s quite easy to locate a bed platform in a Transit such that XL mtbs fit underneath (front wheel off) and someone 6’3” can sleep transversely with 1” (or was it 1.5”? I forget) isoboard insulation on both walls. A bit over 75” net width as I recall. The natural location for the bed is at the widest point of the cargo van.

The van’s structural ribs aren’t in the way fortunately. The van tapers near the end, so the 6’3” sleeper has to sleep in the fwd portion.

Meanwhile the Promaster is wide enough that a queen mattress fits easily for transverse sleeping. Go to van forums and you’ll see that’s one of the Pros people always point out. Some trimming of a memory foam mattress was necessary in the Transit.

Flares are of course mandatory with a Sprinter for transverse sleeping. But that’s just one of many downsides of Sprinters in the 2015+ market.

Even with the flares, once you add insulation and lining it's still a tight squeeze. Make the bed wide enough, though, and diagonal sleeping makes it kind of a non-issue. Unless you have a restless partner

The Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, and Nissan NV are all around 70” (5’10”). So when you account for the things that can reduce that width, you are probably only left with about 66-68”. And that is assuming that your bed is mounted at the optimal height.

Sorry I don’t have a better bed pic than this super old one, but you can see where the vertical ribs impinge on the mattress corners. You can also see that if I had a High Roof version and wanted to mount the bed, say, 8 inches higher, I’d lose a lot of transverse bed space due to the tapered walls.

Promasters are a big rectangular box. From what my friends say, this causes more sidewind buffeting BUT it makes internal build out much easier than the more aero and tapered sprinter or transit designs.

I am 6' 2" and had an ancient '77 Dodge camper van. In order to sleep cross ways i cut out a wall strut on each side and made rectangular carpet lined boxes for my head and feet. Added at least 4 inches to the width.

i insulated the cavitys and put 1/2" foil face board and 1/4" white board as my walls in my promaster, and have exact;y 72" in across. i'm 5'9". i have 5 in of insulation on all walls and 1+" on the floor and ceiling.

frorider, you have no insulation in your rig. would not work for me full time in the winter. nice rig though!

Thanks. Description says 4*4 but listing also rwd. I wonder which. Looking closely at one of the stickers it says Quigley. Do they only do 4*4? Or wheelchair conversion without 4*4?
If the front seats swivel that's a huge bonus

It's listed as 2 wheel because the original vin would correspond to 2 wheel. In addition to the Quigly sticker WRG pointed out the front differential is visible. Only takes some time and gas to take a look.
