It’s the DIY version of the commercially available electronic one I posted here. Yeah it’s not ideal but I think it’s cool to see all the ingenuity and cost effectiveness out there.

Li ion batteries are much cheaper than 2 yrs ago. I’ve seen decent brands going for $399 per 100 amp hr. A Honda 3000 W gen is what, $2500?

if you have a decent alternator capacity and drive somewhere more than 15 mins away with the rig once every 3 days or so, and a high current DC to DC charger for the lithiums, it’s not a big deal to camp multiple days during a storm cycle IME. 3 li batteries effectively has 540+ amp hrs of lead acid capacity (360 lbs of lead ?).

Unless you already own a generator….which I did. Then the upgrade to lithium is a little harder to swallow. I will upgrade soon, but just spent a ton of $$ building a new camper/flatbed. Wife would hang me by my balls.

    Generators are $900.

This charge rate requires only 500 watts or less so even my tiny EU1000 plus 30 amp smart charger system does the job with ease. Charging with more amps may harm you batteries. BTW I am not speaking of anything but conventional lead acid batteries and not AGM, lithium, etc.

Interesting, but overkill. I already own an EU2200i. It helps keep the batteries topped up or share the load when I'm running boot dryers, charging phones, and the like. That's all I need. I'm not camping for two weeks at a time. It's a long weekend in a ski parking lot or a four-day weekend out riding motorcycles.

This is where I am. Though Li-Ion batteries are attractive, I just don't need to pour a bunch of money into a camper that loses value every year.

Pretty cool project, I don’t know what the front looks like. Whoever’s working on it must like bucking rivets.
Friends of mine did this to a bus. They cut the top off below the windows, raised the top 14" and welded in supports. He used a gas cut off saw to lop the top off.

I wasn’t able to get to close but it looked like they drilled out the rivets and added sheet aluminum and installed new rivets. Basically drilling thousands of holes and using clecos

Got my "prison" windows in. With the sliding top half, putting in traditional windows such as Arctic Tern is impossible. Windows need to be flush with interior wall or the slide won't go down. With that in mind, wanted to hypothesis test and put in a small window first, see if I like it, then add bigger ones later. If these suck, I can install traditional RV windows. Double pane is nice, but completely unnecessary with the overkill diesel heater in this small unit.

These are 3/16" Lexan anti-scratch. I recessed them in the wall so they won't get hammered in brush. They close up tight and have a great seal. They close/lock with four 3d printed latches. I need to come up with a "keep open" solution. That's the fun part, thinking, creating.

Put in two of these today, plan will be a big on on the back wall, none on the front. Don't want rain/mud ramming into a front window going down the road. Truck bed comes off next week, staring to fabricate the flatbed this weekend.

For a "keep open" solution - can that window be mounted as a sideways slider? Or is the seal not good enough to prevent leakage that way?

No, it has to be recessed and inside must be flush with interior wall, so when top lowers it doesn't hit. I'll put a small gas shock on it.

Looks really good! Excited to see the interior layout and trying to figure out the dimensions. Modular/collapsible bunks?

That seems to be the case at most big ski areas in Oregon and Wershignton these days. Mt Hood Meadows and Mt Bachelor have similar pricing.

That looks awesome Riff. I did have to do a triple take to figure out why I thought your trim had tech bindings mounted to it. The second set of skis is a stealth pair!!

Baker is 32$ for a no nothing parking spot. In between the 2 base lodges there is one deep pullout that is free.
