What did your passengers do? Hanging them seems a bit over the top.

It seems to be what I wanted. Can comfortably sleep in the cab over.
I never followed this thread till recently when decided to buy the camper. I imagine gas mileage was discussed. This shell is 800lbs and I think matched well to the truck which can carry #2000lbs in the bed. My gas mileage went from 22 to 16 MPG and as low as 13 when going 80MPH. I have to wonder what kind of mileage a smaller less efficient truck will get. Cost and range could become an issue.
Are you planning on insulating and building out the interior? If so, would love to see photos when finished. Can't find many built out Tufport photos on the net, although I know they are out there. Have an All-Terrain Camper (just like FWC) that suits my purposes but have thoughts of switching to hard side fiberglass for better winter use. Tufport seems like a good pick and close to where I am at.

FWC makes a paddle board bracket mounted on the passenger side using the same mounting points as the jack stands. It might give you some ideas for something similar.

Somebody posted pics of a ski box mounted vertically on the back of a camper someplace here. Maybe it was on the ladder? There was an improvised rack inside to hold the skis. Pretty elegant solution but I wouldn’t know how to find the post.

I puts skis in a ski bag, strap one pair to each side of my ladder and lock in place to the ladder using a bike cable lock wrapped tightly around skis between toe and heel piece.

If I had a hardside truck camper with a bathroom, I'd rig up something in there to hold skis.

I saw a Sprinter type van with a tall metal box on the back, sized big enough to hold skis. I think it was swing out mounted. Aluminess maybe? Bet it's expensive.

Owl vans has made a vertical locker that can be mounted on their system.

Here are a couple on vans but could be flipped

Ski RV's, who's sleeping in parking lots?

    GOTOS FTW!

Ok that’s actually a pretty sweet hitch rack setup

Anyone have info on the low profile ski boxes in pics 2&3? I did a search for Hive but came up empty. Tourig is a van converter but their site doesn’t list any accessories like this. Owl Van’s box is over $1500, weighs 80+ lbs, and sells out immediately when they occasionally mfg it.

Could a ski locker (like at a base lodge) be used as a van box?

Interesting idea but they tend to be too tall right?

I’ve posted my ladder ski options in this thread but here’s another pic. The aluminum channel on the lower right is a slot for skis that works well, and the plastic coated cable is for when I’m carrying 4 pairs on the ladder. In both cases Im securing the upper section with voile straps mounted on a horizontal piece of 8020 aluminum.

I may call Whitefeather 4x4 to ask about their box solution. Aluminess has a rear door hinge mount utility plate ( like Owl) that this could mount to:

I just screwed some 2x2 rails to the back of the #WinningBago and then screwed a rocket box i had lying around to them. Inside the box i have a little shelf for the tails and divider at the midpoint. It works brilliantly.Click image for larger version.

Like the vertical rocket box solution. Elegant and simple and not $1,500!

Yes but how we will all show off how much money we have without custom fabricated powder coated aluminum shit strapped on our rigs?

Another cheap solution is a seven foot length of six inch diameter ABS drain pipe. Cap both ends and mount it wherever you want.

I have an Alta bike rack and was going to buy the adapters to mount my rocketbox to it this season - now I realize it's not mounted vertically and might pass - or get a cheap rack to use instead of a rocketbox.

Anyways, just throwing out another option. This setup would be great for snowboards since they're shorter.

I'm sure they've done the math but man I don't know how that doesn't just torque that post and snap like a toothpick when a box+gear starts wobbling.

I'm showing people how much money I have with my 1982 Winnebago. If anything the rocketbox makes it look ritzy.

Man...that just looks like a hackjob. I cant imagine spending 6 figures on a van and then ending up having to carry skis like that.

Nice! I may have to go this route. How did you go about affixing the shelf at the bottom of the box?

I know. That's about where I am in my quest to find a proper way to carry and store skis while traveling with the camper.

Not a bad idea, but that limits you to one ski pair per pipe length, no?
