There's something amazing about skating on natural ice. Only done it few times but what fun.

Agreed; when conditions are right, with no snow since freezing, you can skate for miles. So fun.

Those are also the conditions in which you can win a bet about driving a golf ball over a mile. ;-)

Try it on a large frozen lake with the wind at your back. Spoiler - car shuttles.

Growing up in Suburban Metropolis I got lucky and lived near a park that the municipality flooded every winter. Temporary Shack with a pot-bellied stove and cubbies to store your boots until 9 p.m., but the lights never went out. Maybe a half a mile wide 300 yards in depth. Watch out for the occasional stick or branch on the fringes.

Used to see those ice scooter guys doing mach looney on breezy winter days on the lake in Georgetown. I talked to one "captain" several years ago who said they were reaching what I thought were really inappropriate speeds out there. Dunno if they still do it but that looked like a heck of a good time.
Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
    Cletus: Duly noted.
