Part 2: Padded Room Special Collection Of Junk That More Than Likely Will Be NSFW

And I grew up fully metric.
But if products were made to be 1600 or 1500, perhaps it’d be easier...

That’s kinda the problem in the US, we could switch, but there are enough entrenched processes (like building nominal material sizes). Sure every foot material could be converted to 300mm increment or plywood to 20mm thick (instead of 19mm) and plywood sized to be 1200x2400 (instead of 1219x2438), but Americans aren’t good with change

Just look at the vaccination response for the parallel of rolling out metric (or any other largely beneficial but fundamentally different policy)...a good percentage of the population will get offended that they be asked to improve life for everyone

I've been eyeing a new 1.968in lens for my camera.

Anyone have Pivot brakes for a 3.93in waist ski?

I think I figured out US vaccine hesitancy, the doses are administered in metric units!

Fahrenheit is the dumbest unit of measure. Freezing at 32 instead of 0? I'm all for inches but that shit is stupid AF.

I had to mix a quart of gas, (the only size container I ha, to a 50:1 ratio. It was easier to calculate in ml, than ounces or teaspoons

Who's going to pay to replace every fucking road sign in America? I mean mile markers, exit signs, distance update signs, etc. And re-tool every manufacturing process? Yeah, metric is way easier but you can't just waive your fairy wand and make it so. The transition period would be unbelievably long and everything would be fucked up for that entire period. Yes, I'm a boomer.

Sounds like a quality economic stimulus program to me.

Legacy shit can stay in freedumb units, everything new goes metric.

None of this is a concern for switching from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Highway signs get changed fairly often anyway. We still have a few older marine grade wood signs but theyre inconsequential old point of interest signs. Drivers dont need snow to drive off the road and smash signs, speed limits change, mile markers change as highways widen and straighten. Sign guy puts up a lot of signs just advertising new twinning the govt will be doing and leaving it up a year after the works done to make sure everyone knows where their tax $ goes. That and huge keep to the right signs for the majority of albertans that cant fkn read

Yeah, I'm kind stumped at wanting to keep Fahrenheit. Celsius is so much easier.

I am old enough to remember the tail end of metrification in Canada - 5 year process still going 40 years later.

How far is it? couple klicks, a few feet to the right and about a meter down.
How's that truck do on gas? 10mpg if you keep yer foot out'a'er
How cold is it up der? Oh got down to 0 last night - stock water'er 'bout froze over
Going to town - need anything? Ya stop by the lumber yard and grab a couple 2X4 eights would ya!

I blame the yanks for holding us back from full metrification. Except for temp - I am almost fluently bi-lingual now. Can not figure out F - doesn't even convert easy. And imperial vs. US gallons - WTF?

    That’s the one I don’t like.

    The scale is too small.

A metric shit ton everywhere else is fine by me.

Hey, at least we don’t measure feet by the President’s shoe size.
I bet that was a clusterfuck.

Fahrenheit and feet are more specific that Celsius and meters.

Even so, they are not 'better'.

Too small for what? Do you use temperature for anything other than weather?

As someone that makes calculations with a temperature component every day at work, F is a pain in the ass.

It woulda taken since...maybe...1980 or something?
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

I’d say that the transition is already in progress and that it’s been a long one and we have a ways to go.
