What would it have cost to turn those into some cool high-rise apartment buildings? Seems silly to blow them up.
Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

No issue with the. Closure, just with the construction in the first place.

The EPA forced the company to build those towers despite the plant's scheduled shuttering. There was minimal to no impact to the local aquatic life in the area but still they had to build them to cool discharge water.

    According to who?

Are you seriously suggesting one of the biggest coal fired power plants in the country was "overly regulated"

No I'm telling you there was no need to waste 600mil on a plant that was closing, building ridiculously huge towers which in turn drove down home values in the immediate area moreso then was already being effected by the plants existence. I am lucky enough to have a West facing house that doesn't have to look directly at those god aweful concrete turds but there are thousands who are not. I will repeat my prior statement to those who are challenged, I have no issue with the plant closing but do with the EPA forcing the construction of the towers. It was an epic waste of resources. EPA could have found hundreds of other ways to have Old Dominion use the money to better impact the environment.
