another bike theft. this one was ballsy.
put my yeti on craigslist.
someone called and came to test ride.
i was standing basically in the street watching them, they went around the corner, by the time i got there, they were gone, no sign of a vehicle or anything.
holy shit. wtf.
blown away someone would try this, and i was dumb enough to let it happen.
goddamn it.

That's fucked Marsh. I usually grab an ID, or offer the same, but that's no excuse for this dude's douchbaggery.
Any way you could lure him in again with another CL post? Maybe he has a penchant for those types of bikes and maybe you could specifically mention allowing a test run? I feel for ya.

How did he contact you. Phone? Police can get phone record. Email? Same. You've still got a trail.

sorry to hear about the theft, I remember a couple years ago when I sold a bike on CL I was warned by several people to get ID or car keys from them before they ride. good luck with the police hopefully it makes it back home

That is fucked up. Vibes for sure and hopefully you get it back. That would be awful the bike literally taken right in front of you.

Sucks!
A buddy works at a bike shop here in SLC. A few years back, someone came in and wanted to pedal around a demo 9 they'd had sitting in the shop for a while. Same thing, rode around the corner and never came back.

it was an out of state area code... but who knows. pretty easy to steal a phone too, or a pre-pay.

Hopefully the cyber-police can backtrace him.
But seriously, that really really sucks. Any chance you have renter's / homeowners insurance that would cover it? I had good luck with that when my wife's bike got stolen.

Good luck with this Marsh - that sucks for sure. Maybe post pics here and on CL so folks can be on the lookout? It's not that common a mount.
One of the guys at my LBS told me last week that a friend of his found his stolen bike on CL two years after it was ripped off. Despite moving to Boston, he kept his eye peeled on PDX CL, and when he saw it, sent a friend over with a cop to get it back.
This reminds me - I need to record serial number for my new stumpy

wow. that is some fucked up shit.
best of luck on getting it back.We heard you in our twilight caves, one hundred fathom deep below, for notes of joy can pierce the waves, that drown each sound of war and woe.

Holy shit. People are getting ridiculous, this is becoming a profession it seems. They are now stealing big ticket items which makes the ballsy antics worth their risk. Isn't theft over a grand considered a felony?
Sorry marshal. That was a sweet ride. Telebobski's story of a friend watching craigslist for two years is crazy, but a success none the less. Good luck. I'll keep an eye out.
