Headed up a nearby canyon Friday after work for an hour. This area was hit hard by floods a year ago. Small pocket water. Had a lot of action and got these 2 to hand. Made my weekend
Leaves slowly starting to change at this elevation
This guy....

I just started to get into fishing this fall, and have been learning a ton from here.
Here are a couple fish I caught on sunday afternoon. Apologize for the poor form of the fish on the rocks. The photo was waaaay overexposed, and it makes the rocks look a lot drier than they were. It was raining all day. Needless to say, I have been reading up on proper fish handling and I now realize that this is a bit ignorant. I was really stoked though, because this is the biggest fish I have ever caught (~20in) and thankfully it swam away hard and fast.
and a smaller guy with great color
Doesnt hurt to have these views...

Took the camera out to the local spring creek to see how the spawn is progressing.
So much easier to catch these trouts in pixels than with a fly. Overcast morning helped with
spotting/flushing five 20"+ class trouts either on reads or still on the overnight feed, truly a day
to be thankful for. Let them do their thing now, content with the knowledge they're there
and maybe cross paths again during the warmer sporting months...

No. The biggest brown I have caught in the valley was a skinny 19"er I caught right after iceout. So, it wouldn't be a "fall" brown. That fish was caught around ten miles upstream from where the state record was caught.
There's some big'uns in there. I once saw a rainbow below Ashton, maybe 28-30", that was so ridiculously fat that when it swam through water a foot deep, it had to swim on its side. It looked like a halibut swimming by.Last edited by neckdeep; 11-08-2018 at 09:32 PM.

Here's a valley brown from a few hours ago. You can tell it's valley because, as you know, the extra spots. Your "keep 'em wet" edict cost me probably six fish photos today. Between the cuttbanks and the shelf ice, there was hardly a place to take a pic. Color in the water for the first time in four months finally brought good numbers of large fish out of hiding. That's the only brown tho, out of about 15 fish to grab a Sparkle Minnow fished slow and low in the green holes. Brown, bow, brook, cutt, cuttbow, 5 out of 7. I think the river ices in this week.

My buddy caught this guy Friday, and I caught one just like it a few minutes earlier. How come my buddies can't ever seem to work a camera. Great weekend.
Many browns.
