My instinct says to swiss cheese the latest gen hojis and they should fill my cup for resort days and a no regrets mid-winter travel option. But… always bring your renegades? The new hoji is a much better ski than the new renegade IMO.
The hoji skis pow and hard snow well and is a little less portly at 2050g in the 191.

Yep, it’s so good. If I’m looking for a touring version of the fr110, would that be the Raven? Leaning that way over the hoji for a little more icy couloir performance and weight savings.

HL BC110, but I’d say the raven does a good job too

Yeah, good point. Not sure I can justify a $700 ski, especially when a used raven can be found for cheap, but bc110 would be sweet

    woah. hot take.
did the Hoji get that much better? or the ren worse?

I haven't tried the new stuff since the 195/196 gens, which I still hoard.

back then, the Hojis were 'easy' and the Reds were chargey. pretty straightforward distinction. is it not the same anymore?

I've been on some version of the renegade since the first year of production- while I would say the current shape of the 191 is super dialed, the construction is getting worse and worse. I broke a pair in half right in front of the binding about 10 days in, to 4frnts credit they sent me a new single super quick for 150 bucks. The pair that didn't break has a pretty massive delam going on the tip after about 20 days. I get it that hoji wants a lighter ski for touring, but this thing just isn't built the way it used to be. Tip profile is too thin, thing looks like it would fall apart just looking at it. I'll keep riding them because it's still awesome, but just isn't the build quality it used to be. Such a shame skiing has gone in this super light equipment direction...

They’re not even light, Utopie is just a shit place to build skis.
The whiterooms rens were lighter in their last years than the utopie ones and much more durable.

My buddy has a pair of 1st year raven graphic/wood sidewall 186cm rens with 2 or 2.5 mounts (currently for px15 for around 305ish mm). He isn't skiing them anymore. If someone is interested i can get some pics

Don’t overlook the HL C90. Punches above its weight for 90 underfoot and skis shitty refrozen snow way better than it should. I mounted mine at -8 and they’re very much like a skinny Raven

Are they versatile enough to be a one ski touring quiver? 90 underfoot seems like on the narrow side for a do it all

I have wider touring skis and I would definitely choose those if I knew the snow would be deeper than 10-12”. They are surprisingly fun in the new snow that I’ve had them in, 4-6” of graupel and snow.

The C90 is just surprisingly competent in a wide variety of snow, corn, slush, icy irregular crust, wind crust etc. I plan on using them for all spring touring and mid winter when it hasn’t snowed in a while. They’re a great complement for the Ravens.

Is there a 4frnt thread for raven questions or is that what this is?

I really dig these. Looks like they gained ~100g from last year?

Lies and deceit, there is no change in listed specs from last year:

The current version 191 is the most versatile powder ski I’ve ever been on. I only have ~15 days on em, so I can’t speak to its durability or build. Loved the OG 196, but the new 191 has a wider range.

After a few colder nights the ski portion of my brain has apparently been activated. I was quite surprised to end up with the bigger ski as the winner on the Renegade vs. Raven touring ratio (40 Ren to 37 Raven days) on what felt like a very dry winter. Here's a few turns on them. I mostly took them out on days if it had snowed even a bit. So far they're in very good condition with just one p-tex job on the base.

For some stupid reason I ended up choosing Dynafit Radicals, which weren't a good match for the ski, so didn't ski the big skis in any consequental terrain. Going to change those for some sturdier bindings.

FKNA nice video! Those views are just gorgeous and I'm giving bonus points for the night skiing, that was awesome. Where in the world were those videos taken?

Great video, indeed. It really gets the stoke going since it's been a long miserable summer.

I really like Tectons on my green and white 196 Renegades. I’m fine skiing soft snow lift served. No hucking. Great for short side country laps.

Most of the treeline stuff is from Finnish Lapland as there's not really that much else to ski in here. That night skiing is actually early afternoon skiing during polar night. Alpine stuff is from Lyngen in Northern Norway.
