NSR, but anyone have any good advice for dry places to camp this weekend? Either car camping (not sure where is even open that isn't an RV park), or happy to hike in somewhere...Was thinking something like Little Elbow, but I;m not sure that it's open...

The highway gate past Elbow Falls doesn't open until the 15th, so no go on Little Elbow.

Gooseberry is open, and Paddy's Flats is scheduled to open this weekend. Of course Maclean Creek CG is open year round.

Along the TransCanada highway, Bow Valley PP, Bow River, Lac Des Arcs, Willowrock and Three Sisters should all be open.

In K Country, Mt Kidd is year round, and Boulton is scheduled to open this weekend.

Tunnel Mtn in Banff and LL main are open year round, so is Mosquito Creek up the Icefields Parkway.

Lots of options, but expect to have limited summer activities like biking and hiking. But plenty of potential for skiing!

    Nice!

Were you guys climbing something, or doing some scouting?

I was checking out the Elbow Valley today since the road opened yesterday. There are some once-in-20-year lines waiting to be skied.

Is anyone going to Scumshine this weekend? Much as hate to, I might break down and give them my money the last weekend of lift-serviced skiing in the Rockies.

    (Or I might just hike.)

Bagged Kitchener and Snowdome. Were delayed getting up there by 1 day due to rainy lack of freeze blowing white out conditions at the head of Athabasca. Drank away our sorrows in car camp and changed plans of trying Columbia as a result as I really really don't want to bag it without skis on my feet from the top. Managed to get in and do damage control on the next day with a good solid freeze.

Here's a quick sample of some of the horrible views

I have more but you guys probably aren't interested in scenics....

    I am.

Spent many summers around the Col Icefield, climbing during the days, chatting with people from around the world at the campgound in the evenings.

Great times. Been too long since I've done that, so would enjoy seeing some more pix.

LMAO..awesome, I just figured out how i'm going to "bag" Columbia lol. What a time saver.

    got it on sunday
Last Sunday? On Thursday there was a nasty wind event with snow so we pulled the plug on even trying to ski it as we would have been up there too soon imo, but had we been able to stay until today yesterday might have been an ok shot, but weather was supposed to crap out again today. It looked like it was blowing really hard for a while and alot of snow was being kicked up off of it on Friday while we were up on SD.

Galatea...nice! Sentinel is going to start bugging out to go hit that after he sees your pic. That view of Bryce never gets old. I got a cool shot of some wingers that hauled their ski kites up there and were zipping around in front of it.

The Columbia ski so needs a seperate trip report?

$99 norquay mid week pass is avail until early June again. Find 4 people, one person pays, $99 for M-F skiing all season. Hard to beat the bigchair on a pow day, or just go up for a few laps. And if it hasn't snowed in a while, they do great grooming

I have some OK shots of time2clmb, but mostly backscratcher and sentiel if you boys are interested. nothing in the epic catagory, though. The best are in my thread so its easy to poach them.
