Thanks BKLYN. I like'd your post from the begining because as usual you shoot from the hip and tell it as you see it. You clearly weren't trying to hurt anyone or even tell us a story about how awesome you are. I really appreciate your follow up explaining all of your suggestions. It all adds up, and like you said previously, it can be compared with getting better at the other things we pursue.
I think this is something I'd like to try when I get motivated again. I don't expect to become a pro, but I do have fun shooting and sometimes I think I might improve.
To me the advice is similar to recommending that a skier get into racing and even consider spending some time on the East Coast to get better. A very valid suggestion for someone who wants to be awesome. For the guy who wants to get a little better without the agony of racing on ice, there's still a lot you can do to get better. You can count on two things though: 1. You won't likely become the best. 2. You won't get little pointers about your stance from truth or BKLYN.
I also enjoy watching people criticize others for getting butthurt in their own butthurt rants. Classic TGR.However many are in a shit ton.

Einstein once said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Taking a lot of pictures will not always result into a better photographer. Fundamentals, it all boils down to fundamentals and understanding the application of those fundamentals. After years of going through the "school of hard knocks" with my dslr, I'm finally going to take a photography class from the local college Don't know if it's going to help, but it surely won't hurt. But like that "blind squirrel who finds an acorn" I sure do get lucky sometimes. Good shooting to all.

Truth does seem like an arrogant bastard, but he's from Ogden so I let it slide.
Real story here is how many of you homos can shoot video and edit video? There's the real talent. Anyone can frame a photo with their cell phone and move some sliders in lightroom.... pussies.

Lighing is off now, isn't it? Rule of thirds? Where exactly is your focal point? The crumbs, the shiny chips, that one chip near the middle that's just barely below the surface, the dark lower half? I just cant seem to get this one. However many are in a shit ton.

Chicago? I'm in Chicago right now. What's the best shop to get my 5D sensor cleaned? Found one on Michigan Ave and it seemed like a good shop, but thought someone here might know a better one.
This thread - I like the idea of the 36 shot challenge. With a fulltime job and all the other crap I have going on, doing something structured like this every day would be near impossible. But, I must say, I shoot a lot. I've had my 5D since the beginning of the year and am already well over 10,000 shots on it. I was the same way with my Rebel XT and XSi. When I look back to my pictures from 5 years ago, I realize just how far I've come. I can look at pictures I have taken from year to year to year and can see the improvement quite easily. This comes from shooting a large volume of photos, reading a lot about photography in books and on the web, and spending a lot of time studying my exif data and playing with my photos in LR and PS.
I will be quitting my current job in a month and this will leave me with a lot more time to really practice at photography. What I'll be doing relies on good photos but I still would like to get a lot better and learn what I can. A systematic approach is a great way to achieve this. I'll re-visit this thread when I have the time and see if I can't implement something similar to the approach illustrated here.

ummm thats like 50 shots/day...
a camera with night shot is a good place to start but dont hide it too far away or the infrared wont be able to light the scene effectively. too close and it makes the veins in a womans legs really pop.
if you have willing participants go high def and light the shit out of the scene. make sure you light it evenly so you dont make a sun dial out of the talents erection. unless those willing participants arent the greatest specimens than go standard def with lower lighting.
still, grainy 8mm greenwashed nightshot can be so hot when done right. id post some examples but the last advice i offered in this thread was seemingly overlooked."Yeah, yeah. you buy Playboy for the articles just like I watch Brokeback Mountain for the scenery... wait, that doesnt work."

I went back a month later after painstakingly checking the weather on the internet and then crushed it even more!
This is what it takes rookies. Tenacity. Watch and learn.

this thread is really starting to deliver.
We've won it. It's going to get better now. You can sort of tell these things.

You can do math! Congratulations!
Count is heavily weighted on weekend trips to the Alps, various towns around Germany, and other places around Yurup. I'll easily shoot 400-700 shots in 3 to 4 days during a trip. It's not hard to do when the weather is good and you're shooting interesting stuff during good lighting conditions. I try to do this as much as possible and tend to get out most weekends. During the week? Not so much time to do any shooting.

Winogrand died with 10K undeveloped negatives, so he's basically the hero to this challenge. If you really want to go back in time, you should make your own glass negatives and print with albumen. Mercury poisoning is super gnar and legit, and if you can do 10 a day maybe you'll be super famous after you're dead early like Atget.

Good God, what a horrible thread.
The only redeeming factor was truth talking about people who can't handle honest criticism and then staining his panties when someone dissed his overexposed copy of someone else's work. lmfao.
