What happened to Dexter? Looks like he hasn't posted since late last year.

Not the greatest example of journalism, but this piece does have some cool stories about how Adrian Belew ended up being a membar of Talking Heads...

Dookey, you're a Journalist (or were.)

It's not "THE" Talking Heads, just like it's not The Metallica or The U2. They even had a live album declaring that.

huge Talking Heads fan, wish I got to see them live. Saw David Byrne at Red Rocks recently, was amazeballs.

Stop Making Sense is the only movie I have seen in the theaters more than once (3x), best concert movie ever.

Really hoping to see one of the Adrian & Jerry with Turquaz shows they had scheduled, or any live music for that matter

As long as we are agreed. The name of this band is Talking Heads. It's The Beastie Boys because it's a proper noun. Talking Heads, like Nirvana, is a descriptor or concept. Don't believe me - ask Byrne.

Wouldn’t it be Talking Head if it’s just Byrne and not the other two?

Actually, it's just Beastie Boys. They have never had a "The" on any of their albums. Also they released a press notice one time stating that if you put "the" in front, not to capitalize it, unless it was the beginning of a sentence, but even then they preferred you didn't use the article before their name if/when possible.
Dunno if they ever went so far as saying if their name was a concept, but I think it definitely qualifies as a description...

Interesting aside, according to Who Sampled, only three rap artists have ever sampled a TH song: Memphis Bleak, Trick Daddy, and KC Flight; The latter of whom actually got Byrne to appear in his video...

Agreed that SMS is definitely one of the best concept movies ever.
Highly recommend one of Demme's other concert films: Storefront Hitchcock...

Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons
Packed up and ready to go
Heard of some grave sites out by the highway
    A place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire off in the distance
I'm getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstone, I lived in the ghetto
I've lived all over this town

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey
I ain't got time for that now

Transmit the message to the receiver
Hope for an answer some day
I got three passports, couple of visas
Don't even know my real name
High on a hillside trucks are loading
    Everything's ready to roll
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime
I might not ever get home

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
This ain't no mudd club, or C.B.G.B.
I ain't got time for that now

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey
I ain't got time for that now

Heard about houston? heard about detroit?
    Heard about pittsburgh, PA?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
Somebody might see you up there
I got some groceries, some peanut butter
To last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no headphones
Ain't got no records to play

Why stay in college? why go to night school?
    Gonna be different this time?
    Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard
I can't write nothing at all
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around
I'd love you hold you, I'd like to kiss you
I ain't got no time for that now

Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock
We blended in with the crowd
We got computers, we're tapping phone lines
    I know that ain't allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives
Or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle so many times now
Don't know what I look like
You make me shiver, I feel so tender
We make a pretty good team
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving
You ought to get you some sleep
Burned all my notebooks, what good are notebooks?
    They won't help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace
    The burning keeps me alive
    . . .

    There were four of them...

Unless you meant The Other Two, who don't have any connections to Talking Heads AFAIK.

I have always dug this little ditty from Harrison's '88 debut solo album...used to spin the heck out of it on my college radio shift at the time:

Also a big fan. Remain in light & Fear of music got repeated many times . I think Byrne has mild Aspergers not a big druggie like people think. I have a buddy that saw him at a party years ago in LA and he kind of kept to himself away from everyone. The guy is a genius . He does a Journal/diary that he keeps and it is a great read. As he travels the world on his tours he rents a bicycle and observes the world in vivid detail articulating every nuance of the places and people he meets.

Never got to see TH, BUT I did see the escape from New York tour which featured Tom Tom club and Jerry Harrison and the Casual Gods. ( plus Blondie and THE Ramones) in 91 I think at ParkWest ( Wolfe Mountain/The Canyons/Park City ) Bought a Jerry Harrison and the Casual Gods T shirt ( even though I look a lot like Chris Frantz) which always led to meeting very cool people.

Agreed - that's a great tune. Always liked "Cherokee Chief" off the same album as well.

Thanks man. Just put a hold on it at the library. I love a good rock memoir or bio. The Lou Reed book by Anthony DeCurtis included a lot of great details about the NYC scene during that time.

    Stop Making Sense:
    So. Much. Cocaine. It's amazing.

Currently reading Love Goes to Buildings on Fire, history of music in the 70s in NYC. Hasn't even gotten to the mid 70s yet and it's already fantastic. Takes forever to read though - you have to keep stopping to listen to songs on spotify.

I stumbled across that last night. Good show, really interesting, especially considering a lot of it was old TH songs.
