Recommend mid lvl mtn bike, ladies, for EC?
Hey, I'm finally going to spring 4 a new mtn bike now that I'm employed! I am thinking something mid-level (not expensive or fancy but not a "toy bike")
Any recommendations? I'm female, 5'3" abt 118 lb and live on East Coast so looking at moderate woodland type terrain. Some downhill capabilities.
Advice appreciated!

whats your price range? mid level to me is 1500-2000.

if you know enough about bikes, a used bike is the better deal.
the only problem is that its possible to buy a good bike that is all used up. that said, many people buy bikes and rarely ride them or have too many bikes and it never gets ridden.
the main companies as long as you buy a newer bike is hard to go wrong. giant, specialized, cannondale, trek gary fisher, kona.
where they get you is in the cheaper components. good frame, cheap parts. a used bike might have those parts upgraded, hence knowing your stuff.
you probably are looking for a 4-6" full suspension 26" bike. or a 3-4" suspension 29er if you can find one in your price range.
newer bikes you can "lock out" or stiffen the suspension with the twist of a knob to make most riding efficient or squishy when it gets bumpy.Read my blog at oilcanracer.blogspot.com
