Live in Glacier, work at Baker?
Do a lot of season workers do this? Is it hard to fins a group of people to share a house with?
Does anyone here do it or have done it?
I'm planning to do a season at baker. I will first try to get a room at the resort, but if that's not an option, Glacier is next on my list.
Thanks,

shoot me a PM if you're thinking about a house in Maple falls or glacier starting in the fall.

I'm more looking for a place with a spare room, or a whole house with skiers that all chip in for rent, water etc.
Or maybe that is what you have?Looking for the next turn..

I'm in a sublet for the summer, but will probably end up with a different house in maple falls or possibly glacier for the winter and maybe next summer. Depending on the house (i'm shopping around now), we may or may not end up with some extra rooms. Are you just looking for a winter sublet situation, or a year lease or w/e?

ok, now I understand..
I'm just looking for a place to spend the season at. It needs to be close, or to be shared with other season workers/ everyday skiers at baker since I don't have a car (I'm from Sweden).
As I understand, there are no busses to or from Mt. Baker, so I will mostly rely on hitch hiking to the mountain.
But if I can find someone to carpool with, that would be great.Looking for the next turn..

There is transportation provided by shuttle van by Mt Baker if you're an employee. There is also a privately run bus that goes up. Its a small school bus. Hitch hiking is pretty easy, I pick people up all the time, lots of people do. Might not work as well if you have to be there to go to work at a specific time though. Good luck and lets all hope for a good snow season this year! By the way, I wouldn't exactly call Baker a "resort", rather a ski/snowboard area.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

I spent winters in Glacier from 2000 to 2004 working at the resort. It's not hard to find housing in the area. If you value personal privacy at all I'd really discourage living in the E lodge. I never lived there but I have friends who've described miserable living conditions. If I were in your shoes I'd head up 542 in late summer or early fall and check the bulletin boards at Maple Fuels and Grahm's. People are constantly renting out rooms up there; I've seen countless flyers at those locations advertising rooms for rent.
Good Luck.

Thanks go out to Fiddler & Ripo!
Regarding checking out bulliten boards, I won't go to the weastcoast until winter. I will spend the fall on the eastcoast, wwoofing and learing about life, hehe. So internet and connections will be the way to go for me..
Anyways, how was it to work at Baker? Any special pro's and con's?
I really hope to get a job at the place, I've been dreaming about it for quite some time now..Looking for the next turn..

I'll keep that in mind and pick up a big raincoat, thanks.
Approximately how many rain days does baker get?
Probably a hard question to answer..Looking for the next turn..

If it's raining in bellingham, it's probably raining at the base.
It rains a lot.
so much so, that the local mountain bike park has its own mud index

Just wondering if there are ever any employment opportunities in either maple falls or glacier or if you wanted year round employment would you have to go to Bellingham?

I have a friend from work who lived in glacier last winter and worked at the resort. He said hitchhiking was a sure bet usually got picked up within 10 mins. He only drove when he didn't feel like waiting in the rain for a ride.
