Watched Cruising last night.
Not sure what to say about it. I love movies about old new york, and this fit the bill. Al Pacino reprises his roll as Serpico but instead infiltrates the gay leather scene. The script is very convoluted. There weren't many awkward moments, me and my gf had a good laugh mostly. I'm just sort of as surprised Pacino made the film, and also that the film got made. With so many weird loose ends, and holes. (insert gay joke there <----) Recommended? Probably not, but it was entertaining. Anyway, I love this thread because it is impossible to find an instant flick now that EVERYTHING is dvd only.
Ah, I washed out the Pacino flick with THE EVIL DEAD. Klatu, Verata, Niktu!j'ai des grands instants de lucididididididididi

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but David Attenborough's "The Life of Mammals" is awesome.

Haven't paged back much, so perhaps these have been mentioned already. If not:
Breaking Bad: best show on TV, IMHO.
The Good, The Bad and The Weird: Awesome Korean western. Violent, but in a cartoonish way, and pretty hilarious too.
Super Troopers: my personal favorite dumb comedy.Outlive the bastards - Ed Abbey

Whoa! Gonna have to watch Senna tonight. After that Top Gear segment I've really been wanting to see it.
Don't know if it is new to instaview or not, but Anthony Bourdain No Reservations is fun to watch.

2 summers ago I was staying at my brother's pad in NYC and used his Netflix account frequently.
Best thing I watched during the week I was there was Man on the Train, this moody French noir starring Johnny Hallyday (France's Elvis Presley). Good, quiet, slow-burn film. So good, in fact, that folks felt compelled (WHY?) to remake it with Donald Sutherland and U2's Larry Mullen Jr. (WHY?)
Watch the original if you dig cool French PoMo noir.

"Cave of Forgotten Dreams" In short, cave men tripping balls and scribbling on walls. If you are OK with Werner Herzog and his creepy voice this documentary is really cool. Its not very flashy but the shots are gorgeous and the analysis is second to none.
Also supporting a rec from back a few pages, I thought "Pulling John" was fantastic! In short, arm wresting documentary about decaying old timer, to competitive to pack it up, vs two challengers. One is a young hillbilly from West Virginia (who's dad owns an arm wresting bar). While the other is a post cold war Soviet (who trains tirelessly using the Ivan Drago work out plan).Keep your tips up and always remember to unhook your pack from the chair...

Just finished the Stig Larson trilogy. It made me realize how shitty most of the movies I watch are. Anyone recommend something similar?

^^^ Not the horror movie its made out to be, but still good in an unsettling, uniquely northern European way was "Let the Right One In." Weird, for sure, but had the pace and feel common to many of that part of the world's flicks.
Also, Senna was great!

Two recently watched, yet polar opposite recs:
Sherlock from BBC: surprisingly good, 3 episode seasons with 90 min episodes. Both leads are great as contemporary versions of sherlock and watson. Funny, facinating, and fucking intense at some points.
The League on FX: Follows a group of middle aged friends and their fantasy football league exploits, funny as hell even if you have zero knowledge or interest in football.

"Out of the Wild- Venezuela" is a good discovery channel offering. One of the more intense survival type shows, and it seems to be a positive/transformative experience for the participants.

"Human Traffic" ... a must-watch for anyone that's into electronic music, nightlife, and the more comical side of recreational drug use. One of the best soundtracks and one that will resonate with anyone that set foot inside a club in the late 90s. Up there with "24 Hour Party People", "Party Monster", and "It's All Gone Pete Tong". Direction of the movie is a bit similar to "Shaun of the Dead".

Classic Album series is pretty cool. I recently watched Frank Zappa: Apostrophe /Over-Nite Sensation and it was great. Also, Classic Albums: Steely Dan: Aja was amazingly well edited. Search "Classic Album" and there are a lot of great titles.
Edit: This is awesome, Sex Pistols
