A whole bunch, in the same room, for a decent amount of time?

Entertainment, you silly goose, do you speak it?
There's very little on TV that has "normal" speech/talking, because if you actually record it and play it back it's all a hot mess.
Not as bad as Trump, mind you, but in that same category.

yes. Like PB said, it's not exactly the same, because TV script and actual conversation are always pretty different. But that kind of fast banter, always trying to be witty, always making all sorts of quirky references, yes, absolutely know people like that, a number of them. They can be intimidating to hang out with, if you can't jump in.

And the show -- by all accounts -- did a reasonably accurate job of portraying what life in that environment is like. It's not like hanging out at the barber shop.

And Sorkin by no means created that style of dialogue, either.
Check out His Girl Friday from 1940 for an earlier example (and even that was based on a 1928 Broadway play, so the style has been around in theater and film for decades).

M.A.S.H. comes to mind, as well (both the film and television series).

3rd. It was a bit long but great. The social commentary is on point, too.

Very funny and very painful at the same time. Great casting.

If a comet was heading to earth and guaranteed to destroy it, this movie is the closest thing to what would really happen in the U.S and that is pretty scary.

Eh, I thought it was just decent. It had its moments (the very last scene was possibly the funniest*) but it was pretty uneven and too long, IMO. Still, a good watch.

A few years ago, it would have qualified as utter absurdism. Kinda scary how it was fairly on point for today's times.

    * ETA: I guess there was another scene after the credits.

It certainly beats you over the head with the pandemic metaphors. But, indeed a good watch. I stopped at the credits the first view, “Whatever you do don’t pet them!” was worth finding on the second view.

100%. The cheerful morning show duo was painfully accurate.

Fun movie and worth a watch. Seems it could have shaved off about 1/2 hour though. Loved the ending!

Add me to the "Don't Look Up" fan club. I laughed, I cried, it confirmed my worldview.

Question of the day though is whether it's just preaching to the converted (or entertaining us).

I don't want this to devolve into polyasshat discussion of the merits, just wondering whether Don't Look Up might reach into MAGA-land. I doubt it but but I'm in a blue bubble, what do I know. So I wonder what folks outside my bubble think of this.

That whole sidebar thread was my favorite thing about the movie.

I suspect many MAGAts would and have enjoyed it, while being oblivious to what it portrays. It's not like they've completely divested themselves of the vestiges of pop culture, streaming services, movie stars, etc.

According to the producer, it's an allegory for climate change. Just a Big Bang finish, instead of boiling frog.

Not sure I buy that totally.

The Don’t Look Uppers are obviously a variation of the Qanon / science deniers, and Meryl Streep plays a great female trump.

    It is. He said so.

Well, not Decrapio, but, he agrees, too.

And Cate Blanchett rocks. Jeez, she's so good in anything I see her in.

This always blows my mind, when she played Dylan.

I read that April 2020 was the planned start of filming, but it got pushed back to Nov. 2020. It would be interesting to learn if/how much the script changed in those 7 months.

Yea, That would mean it was written well before the pandemic so makes sense it was more about climate change. But I think it works even better now, the pandemic made this movie better! Haha

Seems obvious to compare Don't Look Up to such genre classics as Dr. Strangelove, and it does not come off well. Heck, Mars Attacks was better.
