FS: Gaggia Factory 106 lever espresso machine w/ Ascaso iMini grinder

    EDIT: Withdrawn for now.

Both of these are in amazing shape. For most of their lives they have sat on my counter looking shiny and nice waiting for me to use them, but alas, I dont have enough time at home during the day ever to get enough use out of them, so they must go to help fund my trip to Norway at the end of the summer.

The grinder is stepless and works like a charm. It cost me $250 new.

The Gaggia Factory is a lever machine, holds '16 cups'(not real cups, espresso cups), and comes with a brand new panarello frother($50), 2 double baskets($40), a single basket, and a nice heavy duty stainless steel tamper($50). I can throw in some descaling solution as well. The machine has just been fully descaled and cleaned by me so it is ready to go. I bought the machine for somewhere around $450 less than a year ago. Comes in original box/packaging.

Grand total I paid around $840 for the whole setup including accessories, and Im thinking of asking $550, but forum espresso geeks feel free to let me know if that is too much.

The grinder is an Ascaso iMini as seen here: http://www.1st-line.com/machines/hom...aso_i-mini.htm only mine is black as opposed to stainless.

Ive also got a set of 6 nice porcelain espresso mugs and saucers Id throw in, cause I wont be needing them without the machine.

I drive up to NH every weekend so Id be happy to meet up somewhere if you wanna take a look at it...

I just moved down to cambridge. Probably should change my location soon. Where in boston are you?

Does this grinder do coarse grinds to use in a french press too, or just espresso? My grinder just broke while moving so I need something replace it but have been eyeing an espresso machine as well. Unfortunately I have no idea what I am looking for since my last grinder was just buying the same one as a friend who knew what he was talking about.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

The grinder can do both french press and espresso. BUT, since it is a stepless grinder it would be very difficult(not worth it) to go back and forth between the 2 grind settings. It always takes a little time to dial in the perfect grind with a stepless grinder, and once you get it you keep it. The only grinder I know of that is highly recommended to go back and forth is the baratza vario but it is twice the price of this one, and if you go from french press to espresso youll have some coarse grinds in your portafilter, or if you go from espresso to french press youll have more sludge in the bottom of your cup cause some smaller grinds will invariably find their way in there.

Bottom line: I would not recommend that a grinder be charged with the job of going back and forth between french press and espresso, but if you must have one, then get the baratza vario. This ascaso iMini is the best grinder for the money if you can live with just choosing one setting and keeping it for each batch of beans.

    BUMP for lower price

$525 for both, or $375 for the machine no grinder

    C'Man:

You still in Boston? If the set up is still available next weekend, any chance I can get a demo? Away on a canoe/camping trip in NH this weekend. Rock a fully automatic in the office but tempted to go old school for the home. Just intimidated by the manually pump.

"Long shot" as I know coin is the motivation, but do any of the following offer any trade value:

    P18s/190 Liberty Double Helix - mounted 310
    186 Line Prophet 100s

Figured as much on trades. If you haven't sold it by the time you're free for a demo, drop me a PM and perhaps will swing on by to take a look-see. Work in Back Bay so can always drop by after work at some point. Will be out of country and offline 8/13-8/22 (Mexico).

Yes machine and grinder and both still available. I would take $325 for the machine or $475 for the whole setup.

^^^ Sorry, man. While I agree price is fair I'm just not sure I'll use it enough to justify dropping the loot. Have a great machine at work and don't get up early enough to make espresso at home. Would just see weekend use 7 months or so of the year.... or is that worth it? Will PM you if my will power fades.

if you ever have the slightest need\want to ever own an espresso machine, you'd be an idiot not to buy this

for 325 for the machine, its an absolute steal
its not as plug and play as a semi-auto but it makes a mean cup

just enjoyed a shot from mine a couple hours ago

    bump for you c-man

Haha, I really appreciate the BUMP, but I was just coming on here to take it off the market for now. I just sent out my portafilter to convert it to bottomless, ordered a couple pounds of counter culture beans and am going to give the whole lever thing one more shot. I just never got it to the point where I was consistently happy with my results, got frustrated and it has sat dormant. Now that its bottomless I think Ill be able to diagnose my problems a little better and get some good espresso out of the deal.

    ps

to go bottomless...if its not too late
take your PF to homedepot and look for a holesaw that fits inside
(exactly what i did to mine)

keep an eye out for squirters!

    beans matter a ton
    fresher the better
roasting yourself is really the only way imo
i roast in super small batches so whatever i've got is usually no older than 10-14 days.

    anyway
    good luck

i havent pulled a bad shot from mine in a very very long time, and thats when i was trying to make coffee for 3 people who all wanted something different and it overheated.
