    Best way to light this?

So havea photo dilemma. I work with a lot of rodent models in my lab and we want to be able to take some pictures of various tissues for a visual comparison in any journal we submit.

last time i just used my 50mm lens with a close up filter on it to get a pseudo macro shot. worked alright but the lighting for it was really hit or miss. I only have the onboard flash and if i use it, it overexposses everything horribly since the tissues are moist.

so looking for tips/suggestions on the best way to manage these pictures to get some decent images that we can use.

    what i have

    d70
    20mm
    50mm
    70-210mm
    0, +1, +2 close up filter

the filter has a 52mm thread which is only on the 50mm lens

will be needed by next thursday

If you don't want to get an external flash, I would try out a cheap pop-up flash diffuser. I don't have any experience with one, but you could probably build one pretty easily if you don't want to buy it...

you could also trying bouncing the flash off of a solid white surface.

a white piece of paper over the flash will work fine.

since you are photographing tissue, white balance is crucial. be sure you are using a gray card every time, otherwise you'll often get an inaccurate representation.
