ok, i'll try to help out. i posted a thread here, but wasn't sure if it was in the right place.

Should we use this forum for job related questions or advice? or just for classifieds.

I personally don't think that it should be filled with retarded work related stories/issues, but asking for job advice seems good to me.

what does that sound like to everyone?

I think it should be related to finding work. Posting positions, asking for advice etc etc. I do not see Rontele stories about slaying bathrooms as being worthwhile for here (although totally legit in the padded room).

I think its not worth it to shit on people's threads either... like the other bent gate thread became.

How about some prefix to denote if a post is about a person looking for a job or a company looking for an employee? Sort of like how NSFW lets you know what you shouldn't open up at work.

    Might help filter through stuff.

    This is a good idea.

How about being civil to the employers? Ie if a female executive from k2 posts a ad looking for people to test their skis someone doesnt tell her to show her tits or get the fuck out. Or some guy with a avatar that says "I will rape you" starts cursing her out in all caps.

The one un-unruly forum on the board. Frank discussions of work experiences and goals, but flame-free somehow. Two designators for actual ads: WORK: for, like, wanna do this shit? LACK: for, like, might want to do this shit.

    am i hired?

    ^^^ that seems like a good move. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing a chick's tits from K2...

It seems like this should maybe be a professional's forum? Safe For Work (SFW) ONLY. No posting porno jobs, or drug running jobs.

-- Oh yeah, thanks for creating this forum. Over the years I've spent checking this place out, I've come to appreciate what TGR does for their fans more and more everyday. I really appreciate it, as I'm sure others do as well.

To echo someone else's comment, how about jobs be posted with the (Job) or (work) prefix in the subject line, followed by the type of job, so if it's not in your field you can skip it. Seekers posting resumes: (Resume) and something about what they do and/or are hoping to do so that employers can filter through it.

I work for a large employer in Denver, and I handle recruiting for my office. We see some corporate types of positions (finance, HR, marketing, IT), but the bulk of our hiring is for our call centers which handle inbound and outbound sales and technical calls. They pay more than unemployment, and might be worthwhile to someone out there.

I guess I'm wondering if it makes sense for me to post these call center positions - would you guys even be interested? Or should I stick with the corporate type of roles? How many positions can/should I post before I'm accused of spamming?

In all honesty, I hesitate to put my employer's info on here, in the event that a thread bearing their name blows up on TGR. Because if that happened, I'd be posting my (Resume), rather than (Jobs). We need to find a way to keep it un-unruly.

I'm happy to help with any general job seeker feedback or advice as time permits.

I think there are some good comments in here( and the standard jibberish). I think that the goal should be to present jobs and help people score them. I think that this should not be a place for tearing people apart. I agree that it should be SFW. Really when we all discussed it it was to be a cool resource. I really think if a mag scores a job or someone scores a great employee we have achieved the goal. I would vote for keeping it fairly focused so it is a tool that works. When we get a few of the key things maybe we can run a poll to see what makes the cut as acceptable.

I would say post everything you can (or want), as there's quite a range of professional and non-professional types on TGR. In terms of how many positions- I don't think anyone would consider it spam when you're asking people if they want a job.... just post 'em up.

Rule #1: Blow Job or No Job

I've found this to be a helpful rule when interviewing possible candidates.

i agree with smmokan, post up ditch digger jobs if you want to. That may be exactly what some mag is looking for...

And i would also prolly refrain from putting up much company info, but would do that more through pm/backchannel once bone fides have been established...

This is a great new venue... thanks for creating it!
What about using the following TLAs (Three letter Acronyms) to differentiate whether an individual is seeking employment vs. when an employer is seeking to hire. Expanding upon what samthaman suggested earlier...

    a few ideas:

ESW: Employer Seeking Worker or LTH: Looking To Hire

WSE: Worker Seeking Employer or LFW: Looking for Work

WTH: Want to Hire vs. WTW: Want to Work

NTH: Need to Hire vs. NAJ: Need A Job

...anyone of these ring true? other suggestions?

    Any thoughts?

We should also have something for jobs that are not so long term and formal. For example, if someone needs help building a deck next weekend. It seems this should have its own categorization as it is more short term one off stuff.

keeping with the temp idea: FTW = For The Weekend (although that could be confused with For The Win, maybe it wouldn't in this forum? also may get more search hits but I guess that's not the point of this forum)

Hopefully I'll have some to post up tomorrow or over the weekend. So far the hardest thing on my end has been trying to convince my IT guy why I need access to TGR at work.

No offense but what's with all the initials. ESW,WSE,WTH,NTH.... If someone needs a job and they don't have time to open all the threads to check'em out, they are lazy and unemployable.

It was just a suggestion to communicate more with fewer words (like in gear swap).

If we need a glossary to figure it out, it's too complicated.

Yeah, made sense at first, but watching the first few threads, maybe it's as easy as HIRING: or LOOKING:.

I'm more fired up about the discussion on how much 'chatter'/BS folks want to allow in these threads, as in the back 'n forth with skipup in the bentgate thread...
