The Dead Collector : What?
Large Man with Dead Body : Nothing. There's your ninepence.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I'm not dead.
The Dead Collector : 'Ere, he says he's not dead.
Large Man with Dead Body : Yes he is.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I'm not.
The Dead Collector : He isn't.
Large Man with Dead Body : Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I'm getting better.
Large Man with Dead Body : No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.
The Dead Collector : Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I don't want to go on the cart.
Large Man with Dead Body : Oh, don't be such a baby.
The Dead Collector : I can't take him.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I feel fine.
Large Man with Dead Body : Oh, do me a favor.
The Dead Collector : I can't.
Large Man with Dead Body : Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.
The Dead Collector : I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.
Large Man with Dead Body : Well, when's your next round?
The Dead Collector : Thursday.
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I think I'll go for a walk.
Large Man with Dead Body : You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?
The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't : I feel happy. I feel happy.
[the Dead Collector glances up and down the street furtively, then silences the Body with his a whack of his club]
Large Man with Dead Body : Ah, thank you very much.
The Dead Collector : Not at all. See you on Thursday.
Large Man with Dead Body : Right.Last edited by Tippster; 11-09-2004 at 09:35 AM.

I love the french. "President Yassir Arafat", heh.
A palestian just told the AP he only has hours left to live.
A pretty anti-climactic way to go. I thought he'd last much longer than this."The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" --Margaret Thatcher

Like him or not he's the duly elected president of Palestine.

13, I'm sure the Palestinians are banking on that. 25 years of self-genocide must be working out better than it looks from the outside.
I know this is conjecture right now, but can it really be true that Arafat's estate(can you call it that) is estimated at 1 billion dollars?"The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" --Margaret Thatcher

interesting poll.
The story is really franco-like. Hope the end will be a palestinian (how d'you say it?) state as happy and prosper as Spain has been after the caudillo...

You'll know when he's dead- a lot of shit will start blowing up.

The two likely successors are more moderate and willing to make concessions, but they may not have enough popular support to get anything done. I don't think Arafat's Hamas and Hizbollah allies (not to mention Islamic Jihad) will make life easy for the next president.
[//quote]

latest news is that he will be pulled from life support in a few hours.
today is some sort of holliday there where the dead are pulled into heaven. he won't be buried in jerusalem.
edit: now they say they won't pull the plug. he doesn't have much time anyway.Last edited by AltaPowderDaze; 11-09-2004 at 11:16 AM.

They should shoot him in a wheelchair and push him off a boat.
Or skip the shooting part, who cares?
[//quote]

Mr. G - yep, he won an election that WE pushed for in 1996 as part of the Two-state solution. Remember how sure we (the US) were that a moderate like Nabil Sha'ath would win, not that swarthy little freak with the quivering lip? Palestine is an internationally recognized state, just without clearly defined borders, currently roughly the territory of Gaza and the West Bank, with it's recognized Capital in Ramallah, not in Jerusalem like the Palestinians would like... We'll never see that mess cleaned up, I think.
Dex is right, though, it seems he has since thrown out any attempt at writing a constitution and his "re-election" was shady as hell.
Do not get me wrong. I refuse to be an apologist for Arafat. I think that fucker almost single-handedly has kept the peace process from progressing. I was in Camp David covering the peace talks in 2000 when he walked away from literally EVERYTHING the Palestinians had initially asked for. I also lived in Munich in '72. 'Nuff said. Fuck him straight to hell.

I suspect like Marie Tringtignant (French actress) he was DOA in France - they just wanted to get his body out of Gaza so they could arrange the sucession
