    The good photographer thread...

Had an idea for a thread.

Post up a photographer whos work you like along with a link to their site/work.

    RULES

-Keep it limited to one photographer per post, make this refined, not just a dumping ground.
-No links to photography groups if you can help it. Try to keep it limited to just the one photographer, not just a link to like magnum or something.
-Give a little info about them, what you like, how you found them, or something.

    Some amazing pictures in here.

I just came across the work of Walters Schels and Beata Lakotta, including these photos of hospice patients before and after death. I'm not into the whole "Faces of Death" thing, but these photographs are provocative.

Found thru- Good question...I find weird things.

    Genre- Experimental/B&W

His work is definitely more on the conceptual side, with a lot of unorthodox techniques like using multiple negatives, fogging the scanner, scratching, etc. I can definitely see my work pushing more in this direction.

    Photog- Chris Anthony

    Found thru- Juxtapoz

    Genre- Conceptual/experimental

    Website- http://chrisanthony.viewbook.com/

Chris Anthony works with 5x7 and 8x10 cameras with lenses from the beginning of the century (you know, the 20th). Most of his projects have a really interesting story line to them, sometimes taking place in the present, sometimes in the past and future. Most of his images have kind of a dreamy feel to them, and he uses tilt/shift movements a lot--real ones, not the shitty PS simulations. Anyways..

He makes me almost like photography as much as painting.

Come on Lads. It's not as if the rules are buried amongst a mountain of drivel. Try a link and maybe just one pic that gets us interested?

He's got some great shots (certainly not his "PLACES" gallery though), but man his website sucks.

    Found thru- Flickr

    Genre- Umm...people shots?

    Link- http://www.flickr.com/photos/merkley and http://threequestionmarks.com/

This guy's stuff trips me out because I can't in a million years ever imagine coming up with some of the ideas/titles he comes up with for his shoots. Some of it is going to be NSFW for a lot of you.

Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

Alex Webb has been a favorite photographer of mine for awhile now. He is a classic street photographer, but his images stand apart because of their layers and complexity.

I like his work because it contains no mistakes. He is in complete control of his camera - every element in the frame has a purpose, there are no accidents or coincidences in his images.

Damn, I have to agree. At first this looks so conventional, and then everyone in the picture develops a narrative, they all look so purposeful; the guy about to walk behind the building is a perfect example. Great stuff, thanks.

People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.
