Red face Serious question = blood in stool

I am starting to freak out. Last week I had a bit of blood in my stool but I didn't really think too much of it as it was just a spot. Just went and seriously the paper and water was bright red. I have no stomach or butt discomfort. I did not eat or drink anything out of the ordinary from my regular diet. Second time this week it has happened.

I am male. I am in my thirties. I do not have anal sex. I know I need to go to the doctor but have no PCP or insurance. Honestly, what is my next step? Any type of specialist I should go to? Find a PCP first? Should I wait and grab insurance next week first even though I can't afford it?

This is serious. I googled and found that blood in stool can be anything from ulcers to cancer. I have no pain anywhere and my father had prostate cancer so I am shitting bricks, literally.

    4. ****No worries, you just need more fiber in your diet. Get the fiber bars, they are actually tasty and the additional farts are a bonus.
    5. Go see your Dr.. The night before the colonoscopy are the worst.

Happened to me a few times over the years. Nothing I freaked out about. It went away. If it had gone on for a time, that would have been a different story. At your age, a visit with a GP is probably about due. Cheaper than a pair of new boot liners.

dark red is when you worry. don't scare your self too much on the internet tonight, ur prob fine.

Edit: if ur father had prostate cancer def get it looked at. ur gonna spend maybe 500 bucks - look at it this way- it's either for pennies on the dollar peace of mind, or if it is something serious aren't you glad you spent the $ to find out sooner then later?

    More on that.

If it is bright red, it is possibly just an internal hemorrhoid close to the 'exit' and harmless. If it is dark purple and mixed in with the stool then it might be something bad further up in the colon, like a polyp, that can become cancer. Get it checked and be happy that you did. But don't freak about about what it might be nor the procedure to find out. 9 times out of 10 the worry is much worse than the eventuality.

(I was recently cleared of a possible colon cancer scare after a meeting with a perverted doctor and his low-light camera that went ALONG WAY 'in there'. It was not so comfortable, but I was half sedated on a drip and had a very cute Japanese lady nurse holding my hand the whole time, with another one just standing by smiling. I tried to talk about skiing. This is all thanks to an amazingly efficient almost free public health system with very detailed annual exams in Japan. I am a better person for it. So go see a doctor.)

    Indeed.

And a bit of additional advice: Googling symptoms is just about the worst thing you can do to yourself. I've been there too, and it is a bad road to go down that pretty much guarantees you'll start feeling other related symptoms, just from stress.

I was worried that I had developed an ulcer due to my medication when similar problems occurred to me after a recent surgery.

I talked to my doc and he said that if I was "straining" while pooping the blood is most likely coming from cracking and bleeding around the 'rim' and that I should eat foods that soften things up a bit (lots of fruit, grapes especially for me). Doing this gives your hole a chance to heal up.

After following his advise and changing my diet a bit the blood went away. Hope this helps.

Man I hope it's nothing. Everytime I eat beets, and I do once or twice a month - supposed to be good for you - I nearly have a heart attack when I wipe.

    Are you eating beets?

    Hope it's nothing.

second this. I freaked when I saw a toilet bowl of bright red blood after a larger, harder bowel movement. I was sure I was going to die. The doc said it was an anal fissure, basically a split in the sphincter muscle. The color to worry about is the darker to black stool. This can indicate bleeding further up the tract which could be cause for worry. That was ten years ago when I was in my early thirties.

For reals? R U sure B wasn't in town for a "surprise" visit? If not him then was it the WG?

Buck up and deal with the issue. Bleeding out of any orafice is prob not a good thing.

Mags are on the money with the advice in this thread. (It's funny when you compare the responses with the I-attacked-a-rock-throwing-kid-in-West Coast-logging-town thread.) Like the collective have said: pony up for a doc's visit, don't fucking Google, bright red probably nothing serious, beets will fuck up your shit big time, and blood in your stool is not usually considered a symptom of prostate cancer. You're going to be fine --and while you're at the doc's see if he can just give the quick once over 30s physical so you gat a bit more bang for your buck. Stop worrying.

Why in the world would you come here for advice on anything relating to the anal pore? That's like raw meat to the lions in here.

I think we're all going to need to see a sample to make a conclusive diagnosis. Wait, that's gross.

Seriously man, you're probably fine. Rectal bleeds can be caused by a plethora of different things - bacterial enteritis, diverticulosis, cancer, ulcers, tears, and of course beets (no, not really).

You're never going to get your answer by posting online. If you need mental relief, make the appointment. Till then you'll be left wondering.

    BNA

A buddy of mine (not gay) was experiencing the same symptoms, frequent dark black stool for 3 days we all laughed and told him to buy some tampons (good friends you know). He went to the ER after prompting from his girlfriend and they told him that if he had not come in he would have bled out internally, and died. He had a tear in his esophagus from smoking, drinking and eating too many aspirin (his ankle was cranked out). He stayed in the hospital for three days and received five units of blood. He's good now, butt it was scary.

I've never wished bright red shit on anyone, but I wish it for you.

    Good Luck

Sounds like his got a core-shot, judging from the symptoms.
