Nice! Hope it works for you. Love to see the final setup when ready. Oh shit, I should have also mentioned I've got new 12wt RIO tropical floaters you can have if you don't have anything already.

RE booze swap - to prevent any unnecessary shipping expense, call this place: http://www.ambassadorwines.com/

it's right down the street and they really like bourbons&rye, great selection. Ask for the "young/short guy", he'll tell you what to deliver.

    nice

glad I checked the thread as I was headed out shopping. I will call the shop in NYC. I will take any lines you are willing to part with. Right now I am going back and forth with my local shop he says a 12 plus is too much and I say the nine isn't big enough. we might be compromising on the 11 plus. Pretty sold on hatch anyway.

I bought and sold a Hatch 7+ for almost the exact same amount, they seem to hold value, at least used-to-used.

thanks, I am should be good to go.(and a bit tipsy) If I manage to loose the one I have it would be a cool adventure for you to ship one the said undisclosed location.

I seriously cant believe I am going back. I might put the reel under my pillow tonight......that is if the wife hasn't tossed all the shit off the bed during baby making practice... but then she might discover I just bought a fly reel......con fayu sid

It really is amazing to be back and after only a few casts on the flats it nearly all came back........I blew the rod swap and a chance at a Gt after only 5 minutes of fishing
I have no idea how to catch a permit. Saw 2 schools, all tailing and some loners and barely got a look.
Thank you very much Mushy and also Matt at Capefish(you too Devo) and the guys at First Light Anglers. So happy to be back and chasing these fish.

Still fucking clueless about how to make Permit eat my shit. I am using 20lb strait with a brown/grey/olive crab. I think I will try some white crabs wrapped with pink and see if those work.
One moster bone missed, but landed many others. My crabs are working for them and the big fellas cruising on the outside of the schools seem to be taking the bait with a well placed cast. Happy as a clam. Headed to sea to run the equipment, it will be a few days before i will get a chance to fish again....on the flats that is

its not gay if your underway

Its not gay for us since we left the lagoon, as in happy. Pretty shitty weather day 1 and not much happening. Day 2 we started to get dialed in and a bit more happy. Day 3 was very very gay(happy) A synopsis of day 3 below

tons of 5-10 pound skipjack tuna, plenty of yellows, a few wahoo and a marlin??????

2 marlin stole the show. The old man was letting out a skirt rig he just checked and BOOM! a 10 ft marlin hits. Thankfully he let the line go. Later one hit a small tuna 100 ft behind us and bit him in half. Pretty fun hauling a 50 lb yellow by hand, we use 2 people. One big one tore the line right out of my hand as it hit. The line felt like it was attached to a rocket and somebody shot it out of my hand. Another tuna hit and spit so hard the line snapped into the air and 150 ft back at us. More of this next month, back in the lagoon soon and headed for the flats.

    Just another day

lets just go ahead and set the go pro to some random setting....the one where you turn off the sun for a week
So it has rained for a while and after no fishing for a few days it was time to head out regardless

Sooooooo, you are telling me you just cast at them and don't strip? I can do that.
    HOLY SHIT! Little help please.

    Here you go sir'

Guy in back- "so Mate...I thought you were going to take me out, teach me to cast, and put me on the bones?????????"
Guy in front- "is that as far as he can extend his arms?"

    finally got one

    On then gone

Got a monster on finally after 15 days.

for a couple seconds I decided to take a break form fishing. 2 hands and no rod.

there goes mushy's rod and my new reel, still hooked to a 70lb GT.....off towards the edge of the reef and into deep water

    Time to resume fishing

    back in the fight

for another few seconds.........broken leader. The 1 foot of 50 I would use as my weak link broke. 8 ft of straight 80lb from now on. I think next time I will try to manhandle the fish, I really think with this rod/reel I can stop the fish dead and prevent him from going over the edge of the reef. The drag was only at 15-20% in my estimation. Hopefully I will get a chance again with one of these fish. I will post the video in a couple months(very $$$$$$ here for internet) when I get home. Its pretty funny watching me try to chase down a fly rod in a foot of water. Also there was a nice bluefin trevalley that ate a crab and took me into the gel spun on the 8wt. One of the best days I have had.
