Roy Buchanan
Deserves his own thread imho. Great biography here.
Bet Tipp either saw him or came close, and saw one of his early compadres, Danny Gatton...
A few clips:
good Hey Joe cover
early version of The Messiah
later and 'polished' version...

Yeah, he's been mentioned in the Blues thread, and a couple others...
There's a pretty amazing DVD out there from WNET/PBS, in 1971, by Bill Graham, called "Introducing Roy Buchanan", where he calls him 'the greatest guitarist you've never heard of'...Well worth picking up if you see it around, i had to hit egay for it...Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown

Listened to his version of "Green Onions" on the way into work this morning.
Never saw the man in person. Saw Danny Gatton a couple times at Club Soda back in the day but honestly was waaaaay too fucked up to really remember.

+ 1 for Roy
Live In Japan has a version of "Hey Joe" that absolutely kills.
A great start w/ Roy would be: "Sweet Dreams: the Anthology". 2 Disc set of great material.
Dude was gifted with the Tele. Too bad he went from being asked to record/tour with the Stone pre Mick Taylor to hanging himself in jail after being busted for bottle/pill excesses.

I heart Live Stock. Roy was a badass.

Saw Roy about 83 at the Keystone Berkeley and don't remember being too impressed. Alvin Lee w/Ten Years Later played there a few weeks later and I enjoyed his show a lot more. Both were snoozefests compared to Stevie Ray Vaughan's show there on his Texas Flood tour. [/HazyMemory]
