TR: My 09-10 East Coast Season

Well, it was a good run. Starting in early December, the day after school ended for winter break, going to the weekend after exams finished up for me, mostly lift served, and mostly at Jay...
First few weeks...were fun, good snow right off the bad, then mediocre snow for a while. Nonetheless, still better than school.

Now for some skiing, taken a little later in December, by a friend of mine

    More Jay

And then the lifts closed for about a week, but that's what skins and hiking are for

    playing around

and we decided to check out the new patrol shack...very nice

    [ame=http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy5/salomonskiier12/hiking/?action=view&current=JaySkinDecember132009014.flv][/ame]

Then we decided to check out the new patrol shack

Overall, a good December, not a ton of snow, but enough to keep me satisfied.

Going to school in upstate NY, getting to VT isn't always the easiest. A few days us outing clubbers ended up at Big Tupper, a new old mountain that opened this year.

Real chill place, a lot of fun, 15$ tickets, and man does this place have potential. Def check it out. http://www.skibigtupper.org/
It's all run by volunteers also. Def a place to check out.
Terrain isn't super hard, but there looked like some gnarly stuff up top where the lifts hadn't opened

    Big Tupper for ya folks...

Still stuck in the ADKS, not getting to VT...so more ADK backcountry skiing
A few weeks later, me and a few outing clubbers skied MT Marcy, the highest Mt in the Adirondacks.
Photos taken by me, some by an outing club member Huck.

Getting ready at the base...only a 16 mile skin/hike up

A lot of cross country skiers/hikers/randoms at the lower elevations

    heading towards the top, closer

too bad it was a complete whiteout.

    non-mag Pete

    hmm...10th mountains...interesting

    back at the bottom

Hucks pics, one of the best photographers I've ever seen

me! Just started tele'ing last year, and really got into it this year

Marcy really is an awesome place...too bad it wasn't clear. The ADKs are unreal when you can actually see.
After that Marcy trip, I headed back to Vermont on the weekends. Of all that skiing I did, about 80 percent was OB side-country kind of stuff...I'm addicted

    more hiking

    me getting my hike on

the end of an awesome run!

and the snowboarder, that kid who just follows us around everywhere, trying to keep up

    waiting for a ride

    Same day:new location

don't hate on the trekkers, i'm just a poor college student

    ready to go

I have a lot of footage of this, but it's not edited yet. It will appear eventually edited and nice.

After a long week of school, back to the hill...
No powder, but overall a beautiful day, good snow, and good time

    I'm me

    The boarder...

A few more weeks, then I was back for spring break. Felt like it was April, but looking at our calendars, we realized it was still March. Whats up with this weather?

    Bonfire?

    clear Blue Jay day

    Oh Jonny B...

    Gaper Day???

At this point, with exams approaching, and temps getting warmer, I expected my season to be over.

However, I was 'peer pressured' into skiing Tucks for one last hurrah (or so I thought)
We drove to B-town, stayed the night, then headed to Tucks the next morning.

    Snowcat, huh?

    Headed up the tucks trail

    Reed

    Me

    dead sexy

    Me at bottom of Hillmans

    climbing

    top of Hillmans

Summit. That's the summit...lets just keep walking

    more hiking

    almost at summit

    the summit beer

the bowl at the end of the day

Overall, an awesome trip. Hike to the summit, ski down to the car...
This season I have tele'd 2 of the highest mountains in the east. my goal is to skin up and tele down the highest peaks in the whole east coast.
And...I thought it was the end of my season.

And then...Jay peak opened up the next weekend. One last weekend of skiing and riding.
Well, Saturday was basically a shitshow

However, Wed, Thursday were not bad at all. A bit crowded, but a lot of snow. 2 feet of it to be specific.

    Then a day later...goodbye snow!

    THE MEATWAGON

Lifts closed, and I thought my season was over. However, boredom brought me back to the mountain where I skinned up and skied down Green mountain boys.
my setup, which I have toured all around the east on. Maybe its time to upgrade...

    patchy...

I was walking around and found 2 unopened long trails...

And that ends my 2009-2010 ski season. It was a good run. I think next year I may focus on school and field training a bit more....

just kidding, I'm going to ski more.
But really, it was a good run, good times, good friends, new friends made...
    Until next season...see ya
