WTB: new 2009-2010 Watea 94 and Head Mojo 15 bindings
WTB: new 2009-2010 Watea 94 for $350 or less. Looking for good price on last years skis never used. Also considering Prophet 90 but only for great price.
Also looking for head/tyrolia mojo/peak bindings brand new. I'll buy for $120 including shipping. (levelnine price is $140)
I know most people on here aren't selling new equipment, but it's probably worth a shot.Last edited by trojanskier; 05-02-2010 at 04:36 PM.

Good prices...looking for 170s though and I'd prefer the 2009-2010 model. If anyone has 2010s in 178 I might consider it, but only if the price is too good to pass up. I'm coming from 2 years on 158 cm twin-tips so I don't wanna go 2 long.

Keep your eyes on Tramdock. BC probably still has a couple of 08/09's to dump, and I wouldn't be surprised if the 09/10's start showing up soon.
The Peak 15's also show up on TD pretty frequently for $99.
I also saw the Head Mojo 90's w/ Mojo 15's on SAC sometime last week for like $350. Just something to consider.

Tramdock has two 09s left, none in 170 cm and no 2010s. Think there's any chance a site other than tramdock and sac will beat $480 for 2010s? I'll wait and see if some Mojos or Peak 15s show up though. Thanks

Backcountry has no reg Peak or Mojo 15s left. They have crazy rainbow colored mojos (which I don't want no matter how cheap) and 15 Peak 15 Tanner Hall versions, but they're $208 so I can't see them going below $140 on tramdock. I guess I'll just go with what I've found. I don't think anyone but Tramdock would have Wateas for under $480 so I might as well buy them while they still have em.

Just out of curiosity, why would you prefer the 2010 version? The boat-hull tips? Pretend swallow-tail? If it were me, those are things I'd prefer to not have.

What are the disadvantages of the boat-hull tips? All the reviews for the 2010 sound great and it sounds like a bit more flexbile and lively than the 2008-2009 version from what I've heard. Also Fischer claims the boat-hull tip improves floatation. I haven't really heard anything to back that one up though. Have you ridden both?

Anyways backcountry is out of my size in the 09s and they are hard to find and in most cases more expensive than the 2010.

What's your opinion on the Prophet 90 vs. the Watea 94 (09 or 10) especially with regards to tree and bowl skiing? Price isn't really an issue at these discounts, but the Prophet 90 is $380. $100 less than the Wateas I found. I also found Prophet Flites for $300, but I think I've decided the 90s are a better choice. Does the twin-tip of the Prophet hurt it on groomers? I think the Wateas are a better deal at least as far as percent off the original price, but are the Prophets a better ski?

I already saw those, but they're too long. I want 170 cm. Anyways, it's not worth that price for used skis, especially from 2 years ago.

moosejaw.com has Mojo's for a reasonable price. There might be a coupon out there to make them even cheaper.

I think it's a gimmick that isn't necessary, and will make waxing, tuning, and attaching skins more difficult. The middle part of the boat hull doesn't even contact the snow when the ski is on edge (which is most of the time).
Fischer's little blog on the boat hull is oxymoronic:
The ski shovel for an awesome freeride feeling direct from speedboat engineering. It drives through the snow, pushing it to the side like the bow and hull of a boat in water, for maximum manoeuvrability, faster skiing, more precise guidance, better float and faster turns.
First they say it cuts through the snow better, then they say it floats better. Kinda like saying, 'floats like a knife'. On a boat, having a sharp or deep V shaped bow and hull actually makes it plane less (or float less in ski talk), but track better. Since this ski is cambered, tracking is not an issue.
IMO the Watea is a good ski that didn't sell well because Fischer is considered to be a race-ski company, and doesn't have much of a presence on the big mountain film and comp scene (plus it has fugly graphics). So they "improved" it in an attempt to improve sales.
I like the watea better because it has less sidecut. I find the prophet way too turny for my taste.

This is kind of a Jong question but what do u mean by turny?
-
05-05-2010, 05:32 PM #20
I mean that the prophet has a very deep sidecut. For instance, the 179 prophet has a turn radius of 17.7m whereas the 178 watea has a radius of 21m.
I used to own a pair of prophet 100s and found that they are always trying to turn. At first I kinda liked this, but got tired of it pretty fast. I like a ski that tends to run straight until you get it on edge and load it up.
Edit: Oh, and to answer your previous question, no I haven't skied the 2010 watea, only the 2009. So my thoughts about the boat hull are purely theoretical.

I like a ski that likes to turn so maybe the P90s a better choice for me. How would you compare tree skiing between the two?

I demo'd the Prophet 90's in Jan and thought they were pretty good, but had the opportunity to pick up the Watea 94's (186) for cheap in late Jan and definitely like them better. I mainly ski EC trees and really liked them for trees, pow, and they were even pretty damn good on the groomers.
My last day of the season was @ Magic, and I was able to get them so far over that I was booting out. Considering throwing lifters on for next season.
