There are a shlt ton of open pit mines like that in nevada. Some of them at elevation and that get quite a bit of snow. They look good to go from an airplane the right time of year.

I've looked at that mine from the air as well, with more snow. It would be sick, but lots of flat landings that may take their toll by the bottom.

Plus, with those flat landings, clicking out of a shoe and falling off another tier or two would really suck.

There are some old quarries up high in the mountains some places that I know get enough snow to be skiable, and I've thought for a while they could make for some sick looking pics.

Here's one up ashcroft. The aspect isnt the greatest to get a lot of snow, but maybe on a big year lines could be linked together connecting the bigger drops.
