    Tele Skiing

Thought I'd try it this year. Don't really know a whole lot about it but it looks like fun. Any pointers?

I know they do here in Utah. Also just about any shop that sells tele gear will rent demos.

It's addicting, you'll never go back. I sold all my alpine year 3 years ago without even being on tele's ever, bought tele stuff, never went back.

Hugh Jass has G3 bindings for sale on powmag in ski swap. Throw those on some short, shaped alpine skis and you're set.

get decent boots, though, that's the most important thing, just like alpine skiing. make sure they fit properly.

Good luck man, I made the switch last season and love it. Prepare to do more head/face plants than you've ever experienced, searing pain in your quads, and more gear worship.

doesn't matter if it's a tele ski? by the way, what differences are there between tele and alpine skis?

    basically, nothing.

theoretically, tele skis have a more rounded even flex, since the heel is not locked there is not a 'dead spot' between heel and toe like there is in an alpine setup. Also, something else I've heard is that tele bindings have extra reinforcement at the mounting point due to the high amounts of tourque acting on that spot. Many tele-specific skis are supposedly softer as well.

I broke a pair of skis by pulling the bindings out last year, but the skis were not to blame, they were superloops and big boots. THe superloops had 4 screws mounted in a small area, which resulted in a larger pressure than other bindings.

I'm convinced that it's just marketing stuff. Get the same kind of skis you like for alpining, if you like a stiff alpine ski and like to haul ass, odds are you'll like the same setup with your heel free.

good luck, and remember, "free your heel, slow your friends"

I used to put tele bindings on alpine skis but then found that if I was going to buy a new pair of skis the tele specific ski was about 15-20% less cash for the same ski. An example of this is the Atomic R:EX and TM:EX. They are basiclly the same ski but the TMEX sells for at least $100 less. It used to be that alpine skis had a bit of a dead spot under foot but most newer alpine skis have moved to an even flex due to the advance of alpine bindings so most new alpine skis can also make a great tele ski.

Just get a pair of skis mounted and have fun. It's a blast.

Put risers under the bindings to prevent wingout of the wide tele bindings and reduce chances of ripping binding from ski. Get burly boots T1 type stiffness. Take a lesson, weighting the uphill ski properly is counterintuitive

Don't do it ! You'll have to stop showering, let your hair and beard grow long, start eating tofu and granola, start smokin gandga so you can get in touch with your spiritual side....and then you'll have to start skiing slower to make sure your alpine skier friends can stay ahead of you.
    Peace Man!

dude tele is tight ive never done it but last year i went up with this guy that teles on the mary jane side of winter park and he was tearing up the bumps better than any body on their alpine skis, i would definatly go for it but dont give up all your alpine gear you can always do both....tele freestyle is tight and ive also seen some tele bindings on some pocket rockets and seth pistols so... go for it dude!
