So, my old man's been doing the internet dating thing - and he recently stumbled upon some russian dating site.

He's been going on and on about one girl in particular who describes herself as successful, intelligent and educated - and the pics she provide are of a knockout. Apparently, all the men in russia are lazy pigs who drink beer all day and smack around their women - which is why she's so interested in him, a sensitive american who enjoys the basic things in life. It wouldn't make any sense for her to spend all that time writing letters if she weren't for real (maybe the last 8 weeks).

He's been divorced 4 times, has a pretty good income (MD), and is...socially unaware. I feel like I'm watching a train wreck happen and am powerless to stop it. He brings her up pretty much every time I talk to him (once a day or so, I live next door). I keep expecting him to transition to the next shiny thing, but apparently she's going to come for a visit. I think this should make me feel more at ease (prove some legitimacy) but I don't....

Your unease is well justified. Tread lightly. Make sure that your old man has enough common sense to guard his financial assets from this girl. She will be hot. She will be sweet. She will fuck him (not in a pleasant way) if he's not careful.

Prenups are good and everything, but there are ways to get around them. There are numerous Russian cites instructing wives on how to behave and act in order to reap the most benefits from their American husbands (this includes lying about domestic abuse, etc).

Hope your old man has some harmless fun and doesn't get in over his head. Given that he's been divorced 4 times, I'm guessing he's found a good divorce lawyer by now, so that's reassuring.

I am not sure how saying russian women are at all ends of the spectrum would warrant being called a bigot. I was saying that more in regards to some of the other assumptive responses here.
