Yet Another AK TR - 2010 Edition
Week 1
My trip got off to a bit of a rough start as I missed my flight Fri afternoon. Was dumping over Rose and due to multiple wrecks I ended up sitting in an unmoving line of traffic for 80min and when it finally got moving, it was slow going to RNO. Arrived at 5:30 for a 5:40 flight, they just shook their heads and rescheduled me for 24 hours later. I did get to enjoy all that fresh snow at Rose the next AM and arrived in Cordova at Points North Heli Adventures just a day late. I was met with gray rainy skies that continued til the next AM when it suddenly and unexpectedly cleared. So out we flew.
(As has been said multiple times, I'll just repeat as a disclaimer. Pictures do not do this place justice. It is near impossible to capture the size & scale in pics. You have to see and experience it firsthand.)
We started and ended the day in South Funkytown and worked the Ridiculous/Mixmaster area in between.
Good Morning!
Back in the Chugach
Ridiculous - Everywhere you can imagine skiing in that pic, we do.
JW Comin' round the bend
Ridiculous pow shot
Mixmaster - Just a bit steeper over there
Another group about to drop in down Mixmaster
Max's
A side view of Max's showing the traverse in over gnarly exposure
Finishing off the day in the sun on South Funkytown

Day 2 we started back at South Funkytown before heading deeper out to The Red Light District & Full Support Valley. Finished up with some nice relaxing pow runs on Better Than Sex.
Nice warmup run in S Funky
Things looking a bit tighter - Banana Hammock
MC through the choke
MC opening it up
Looking back up at Banana Hammock
Full Support - about 2K vert, consistently about 40-45
Vapor Trails on Coogans
Atom Smasher - You can barely see me perched just up & right of center
All stacked up, I'm about to drop.....

Day 3 we just hung around The Worm Glacier. Seems no one took many actual ski shots but plenty of scenery.
Looking up The Worm Glacier. From right to left, Ate The Worm, Buddy Love, The Proshop.

Scary lookin' crown on The Proshop

gotta love alaska's snow, it comes in so wet that it sticks to everything, but the cool air sweeps in after and dries it up like crazy. this makes some of the steeper terrain unthinkable as far as skiing everywhere but there.

Day 4 Saturday. Finished off a great 32 run week. Fun times skiing with the Brits, and thanks to Ben for taking us to the goods!
Not many pics today either, was a shorter day, we headed out to Salt Lick, Mihiella, Pontoon Wall & Magic Bus. Snow was more wind affected and downright firm & scratchy in spots.
Taking in the scenery
Best snow we found was on this ramp on Pontoon Wall
So we setup and took a few pics:
Where'd he go?
Workin' the left side (bastard stole my line)
Wish I was more photogenic

Donkey Kong
I spent about an hour on that run last year looking for a guy's ski. Never did find it.
Great pics.

My friend went yesterday, the guy on the skinny skis. First words out of his mouth when we asked him how it as. It was sick. Never heard him say that before. Anyway looks like a great trip.

Week 2, Day 5
A new week and new group, Kip was leading the charge. We worked The Worm all day. Did Ate The Worm 3 times, worked some lower spines & flanks, but the highlight was getting up on Buddy Love, once from the top & twice from the shoulder.
We're next
Lotsa eye candy to look at
Looks big enough that a train could come rumbling outta there
Buddy Love
I was a bit gripped on this one. The top 100 feet was firm & scratchy with a bit of wind affect through the rocks before it softened up nicely below.
Last run of the day we had a bit of time so we did about a 20 min hike along and back of the ridge to get to McGovern's

Day 6
After 3 down days to let it freshen up a bit, we got out on Thursday. Got some good video of me rippin' down our warmup run, Max's. (Can't figure out how to embed so here's the link the old fashioned way)
http://tinypic.com/r/34pnifk/7
We spent the day in the Ridiculous/MixMaster area.
Was slow going to start so we had a party
I had a nap
We were soon on our way again & looking down WhiteChops.
Top section was firm and scratchy, just a bit of exposure below. Precision was essential.
Looking back over from MixMaster
A couple runs later, we worked our way into the Pencil Chute, skier's right of WhiteChops
Last run of the day was Lex Luthor. You can see our guide just below the notch near the top.
Heading Home

Day 7
Light was kinda iffy so we weren't sure how long a day it would be.
First things first, gotta sling fuel out to the cache.
Started in the Red Light District. Our morning ramp in the background on X Rated
A quick hike up to Banana Hammock
JM Workin' the wall
Out on the apron
JL Scoring pow on Full Support
Plenty left for Kip
The winds picked up a bit and the light gotta bit milky so we moved closer to home, back to The Worm.
Peering over the edge on Donkey Kong
On the DK spine
Working my way down a chute off The Wave
Another great week! Thanks Kip! 3 more days & 26 more runs, 58 total now, visions of reaching 100 beginning to tease me. More to follow................"The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size."

Fun Times
Andy-
A pretty sick recap of the days I got to fly with you. I'm pretty stoked I got to take a look at the pics, names & descriptions.
I was able to throw together a vid of the late April week:

enjoy.
