TR: Let the Spring touring Season !
While many people have been complaining about this season and the conditions I have found the resort to be rather sick the past month.
It’s good knowing all the local stash spots.
And when things have been getting a little bit too tracked out for my taste I have been touring the Crystal slack country.
Pick your poison
Including but not limited to
Dog Legged Chute over and over
Crystal Lakes Basin. Please Peeps stop following our tracks
The Gnar on Crystal Peak (looker’s right chute)
Morse Creek Basin
Silver Basin
Cement Basin
Lake Basin
Sometimes we have been skinning
While other times we have been Cramponing
As you could imagine the same terrain can get boring so I have also been resorting to Glacier skiing.
And hucking off Seracs
I even attempted a 5 day bushwhack in the Picketts Range.
Freezing nightly
Just to turn around because of a few pesky avalanches
And now on to last Thursday.
To celebrate the spring touring season it was time to head out and take advantage of 3 bluebird days with low avalanche danger so in short.
STEEP NORTH FACING SLOPES………
The first objective was the North Twin Sister of the Twin Sisters Range.
You don’t need snow to skin
But it definitely helps. (Looking at the North Twin Sister)
I really hate boot packing
But sometimes have no options
Yeah there’s nothing burly in Washington.
I thought you said it was groomed
Yep a horrible season for sure
Once is never enough and the next day was time to up the ante of steep skiing.
Welcome to Johannesburg (our ascent in red and decent in Blue)
No it's not windy at all.
I thought I said I hate boot packing
Especially when it's knee deep.
Welcome to the top Scott, now don’t slip
Once again it's powder
I hope this doesn’t cliff out
Friday I got my feel of Steep skiing so Saturday I would have to get my feel of a exxxtreme Cardio.
What to do?????
The Flett Glacier Headwall on the North Side of Mt Rainier.
Everyone said I was crazy to pull it off in one day so it looks like I’m going solo.
With everyone on the Southside of Rainier corn skiing who’s going to lap all this pow with me?
It was 24 miles roundtrip and over 8500 feet but man was it sick. (my line is right in the Center)
Spray Park and the Flett Glacier Headwall
And if the website wasn’t enough now you can track me in real time
Now let the spring touring season begin
Oh yeah Check out my super sweet Blog
I owe a special thanks to Prior, Will at Spark R&D, The Trew Crew, Black Diamond, Petzl, Frequency, Jetboil and Burton.Last edited by Kyle Miller; 03-22-2010 at 08:00 PM.

And can I get uh AMEN from the congregation!
Unbelievable man, what incredible terrain, tours, photos, and effort. Gotta love the cynical people this year - missing some damn fun times for sure.

can't wait to see what you have planned
I can't believe you are a rando racer because I look so much better in Lycra than you.

Hi all,
By this afternoon, the crew had the highway from the Silver Star gate (MP 171) to Lone Fir Campground (MP 166) cleared and widened. They had hoped to have a single cut through to Cutthroat Ridge (MP 168), but the 2nd snow blower that was supposed to join the effort today didn't show up. It's in the shop in Wenatchee because it wouldn't start. Repairs have been completed and it's headed for Twisp tomorrow, but won't be on site and working until late Wednesday or Thursday morning. Tomorrow, the crew is expecting to clear and widen all the way to Cutthroat #1 (the beginning of the avalanche zone) where the Avalanche crew will join them on Thursday morning (along with their snow cat/plow). If we don't have any more equipment or weather delays, they're hoping to clear the highway through the 12 Cutthroat Ridge avalanche chutes by Tuesday (which would be record time!). That would put them into the Spiral Gulch/Liberty Bell section sometime Wednesday. (We'll see...)
Don (Becker) says the weather was great today. After starting out cold (about 23 degrees at 7 a.m.) it turned sunny and got up to 50 degrees by 3 p.m.

Expect another update late Wednesday or early Thursday.
