Good, feral cats are an invasive species and should be treated as such.

I support the hunting and killing of feral cats.

How dumb is it to spend $100 per cat (per the article) to euthanize them or worse, catch them, neuter them, and then put them back into the wild? What a stupid idea.

Feral cats are not native animals and should not be in the wild...plus, they could be really fun to hunt ;-)

Yeah, uh, Bubba told me over a PBR and a shot that, like, a feerell kat is like a whole lot different than a pet cat. It's got, like, spots, you know, on it's tail, and, they are kinda, uh, mangy looking. He hates the fuckers. Loves to shoot 'em. yeah. Better than rabbits.

Feral cats are a detriment to many native species, especially birds, snakes, lizards & such. Without TNR programs they overpopulate and you end up with a bunch of sick, half starved, disease carrying wild cats. I would fully support a program that allows them to be hunted as spending taxpayer dollars to euthanize or trap/neuter/return them is silly.

This may be true of pets and "subsidized" ferals, but true ferals actually fill a critical need for small/medium predators, since we've managed to pretty much exterminate most of them. True ferals are just like wild predators - they don't kill just to play with their prey, they only kill to eat; to do otherwise wastes too much energy.

gretch TNR can actually be more effective at controlling feral cat populations, because if you can neuter a big buck kittah, he'll continue to be protective of his harems and try to breed them, preventing smaller males from breeding them, whereas if you just shot him the others would step in and keep the females pregnant

The tough part is killing the cat, they are tough SOB's. 12 ga knocks them down fast but that's a little over kill. They seem to be able to run 1/4 mile after they are dead.

Oh yeah, just tons of 'em; lot's more than there used to be. Granted, some of the omnivores ('yotes and 'coons) are doing fine since they seem to be almost as smart as we are (OK, smarter than some of us), but when it comes to carnivores (bobcats, ferrets, weasels, pine martins, etc.) the clock is ticking. And we've got the rats, mice, starlings etc. to prove it.

Anyone have a feral cat spawn its feral litter under your house, directly underneath your bed? Yeah, that's fun.

Amazing how many of those little fuckers you can hit with one load of shot.

Do any of you actually think you can shoot enough of them to make a difference in feral cat populations ?

There are any where from 30 to 65 million feral cats, 2 to 3 litters a year, 3 to 5 kittens per litter, figure 40% are female and 2 of a possible 6 kittens make to young adult hood and you end up with a very conservative estimate of 24 million new feral cats a year. Your telling me there are enough people willing to hunt cats to kill 24 million new cats a year. Bullshit

Second 90% of people aren't going to be able to actually shoot anything other than your next door neighbors cat or one's that were living with people but abandoned. Real honest to god feral cats you'll never see, some of the larger colonies near massive food sources in cities sure but the vast majority aren't being shot.

Your best bet is Feline leukemia and AIDS, you'll never TNR enough let alone shoot them but FLV and FAIDS have a chance because there isn't enough genetic variation in cats.

Your domestic house cat is one of the greatest survivors currently residing on this planet you can shoot as many as you want and it isn't going to do shit for birds and rabbits.

As an aside rural feral cats that have to work to eat aren't likely to recreational hunt, however it places where food is widely available and where the larger populations are they recreational hunt like mofos.
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

Quoted for accuracy; if you want to hate cats because they shit in your garden, make you sneeze, own your soul, fine, but don't pretend they are responsible for the evils of the world.
