So if you want a powder skis to compliment a 101mm ski that you still want to keep I should ignore the 112 RP and look to the Lotus 120 really as the 112 is pitched as a quiver of one?

the first batch of skis (w112rp 190 pure, and almost all models/lengths of hybrid) are pressed and about to ship to the oregon distro center. still looking at about an october 15th beginning ship date, and while i do not know all the exact dates on everything, skis will be coming and going through there through the entire month as the remaining pures (ie lotus 120, 138; wailer 95/105; cassiar) finish up.

set in stone specifics will be emailed out to each customer as soon as an arrival date is confirmed on each different pair ordered. if you have specific questions, email mike@

it depends on what you want your powder ski to ski like.

if it was me personally, i would go to the lotus 138, but i don't know the terrain etc of what you ski (and i would have w112rp to ski everyday )

the w112rp designed to be a pivoty, smeary powder ski that can still rail groomers. it should feel at home in 2ft of fresh as it will making gs turns on corduroy.
the lotus 120 is deisgned as a big mountain ski that will stomp cliffs, straightline, yet still be nimble enough to be easy to handle in tighter trees and chutes.
the lotus 138 is designed to be make any turn shape at any speed on any pitch. it really excells in 8+" in my opinion, yet is still competent on firm snow if you need to get back to the lift/cat/chopper/snomo.

hope that helps. feel free to pm if you would like more detailed info.

that description of the RP pretty much sums up why I boight them. The idea of a funshape that only gives up the equivalent of 10cm of effective edge enthralls. Seems to me that such a sturdy effective edge could make this the ultimate soft day patrol ski.

Hoping I end up with a 3 pound lighter super 7. Rossi nailed that ski, except for the weight. IMHO. Time will tell, but that fire shovel rocker should make for some good tree skiing in Utah...hopefully we end up with a few of those magical Baldy dumps, that would be sweet
Is it winter yet, this 95 degree LA day today sucked. Well the roller derby girls at the Harley dealer were pretty cool. Sorry starting blogging, my bad, continue with the RP thread

UPDATED: DPS says my RP112's are shipping sometime prior to 10/15. Nice...
Finally get to try DPS since last one was a fail in 06 due to production issues...

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Of course, I ordered Hybrid 190s and 168s on May 15, which puts me on the cusp. I just emailed them to say ship 'em together if you can.

Marshal - In light of not starting a thread that won't go anywhere cuz there isn;t much need around here...

Have you, (or anyone else), spent much time on the Cassiar? I'm looking to pick up a light touring rig for skinning evening laps at the town resort that doubles as a spring peak ski. I didn't dig the Wailer 105 flex 2. Too burley for that application for my style. Is the Cassair a thinner version?

The 178 Cassiar 80 is one of the most fun carving skis that I have ever been on. Light, stable, torsionally stiff, turn on a dime.

Other than materials, Cassiar is nothing like a Wailer 105 (which I love). It has tons of side-cut, and doesn't float like a ski with 105mm underfoot. It is a great corduroy ski.

cassiar is super fun as a groomer, early season type ski, but i would question the flex pattern and sidecut as a mountaineering ski. it really wants to be skied on edge at speed.

    hope that helps?

Schwerty, when you wrote that the w105 flex 2 was burly, did you mean flex wise, or dimensionally?

    I've got a pair of 175 cm w95 in a flex 2 and it's stiffer than the 178 cm w105 in a flex 2.
    I've skied the 178 w105 a bunch, but haven't skied the w95 yet.

I'm thinking that maybe the wailer 95 could fit as a peak bagging ski/groomer ski that you're looking for?

Thanks guys. I don't think the Cassair is what I'm looking for. I'll stick with the 120 and the 112. My wallet doesn't need that kind of abuse anyway.

I haven't seen a thread or post, but maybe I just missed it.

Has anybody been on both the RP112 and the 190 Moment bibby?
any thoughts about differences, similarities etc?

i do not have that much time on a bibby, only a run or two.

but the flex pattern is different rp is pretty round, mid-stiff all across, where the bibby has a little softer shovel, and a mid-stiff tail. the rocker likes and amount of splay are quite different, as well as the tail profile, and how the tips and tail engage the snow on edge. the w112rp is definitely more directional.

i can tell you my opinions on these things, but that would devolve into a sales pitch, so i will refrain from that, and allow those, not affiliated with either company to post their reviews once the snow flakes fly.

if you have specific questions, feel free to pm me if you wish.

First, I think that the prices are ridiculous and yet skiing these was so ridiculously fun that I am seriously considering making them my one ski quiver for the next couple of years.

Disclosure: I am a recovering telemarker who has been mostly skiing alpine this year on a smallish AT setup in bounds and out, partly due to a knee injury.

    Mini review:
    days skied: 3 runs
    skis: DPS Wailer 112RP pures
    length: 190 cm
    dim: 141-112-128
    bindings: Jesters? set at 10
    boots: Dynafit Zzero-4CTF
mounted on the (current proto) line which I thought was money.
weight (of skis): advertised 4 lbs per ski, they certainly felt light
    weight (me): ~200 lbs
    height: 6' 1.5''
tune: edges were sharp, bases were waxed (and fast)

skis I like: honestly I have fun on whatever. I really like my BH shoots (191 cm, probably only other big ski I have significant time on), I also really like my Blizzard Titan 9.2 (188cm mustard yellow). Both tele.

Skis I dislike: Demo'd (tele) some justices (185cm) and this year's zealots (182cm) at the beginning of the season, was not that impressed, but conditions weren't that great.

I got first tracks on wildcat and was immediately impressed with their soft snow performance, skied big in the powder. Planed nicely and rode on top, able to vary turn radius easily and reel off waves of snow at will, like water skiing, but could go from feeling surfy to feeling locked in, in the powder depending on your input. I have not experienced this before. Wow! Immediately felt like a rock star and easily the best (and fastest) turns I have had this year. Really dig the shape for powder, soft snow performance. Did a second lap down thirds/high nowhere. More powder. Holy shit, I want these skis. They absolutley rip. Given the morning conditions anything would have slayed it. So why the excitement? I have been dealing with a nagging minor knee injury this season, and am not in the best shape. Yet I was able to ski fast and powerfully with little to no stress and fatigue to my knees and legs. The light weight and low swing weight was a revelation. The progressive shape is only half of it in my mind, the other half is the low weight, awesome.

Gave the skis back, and demo'd some other DPS skis Lotus 120 in a 200cm and 190cm. Snow was starting to get tracked out a bit and getting heavy. I liked the loti, but conditions were getting a little more challenging for my knee and the skis were requiring more driver input. Couldn't stop thinking about the 112RP. Got on them for an early afternoon run to see if I still liked them in the tracked out, cut up, scraped off, and whatever other kind of conditions I could find. They did not disappoint. Suprising edge hold, this must be due to the torsional stiffness, and also the camber (2-3mm?) and (minimal) sidecut. Went flying out the high T, which was a bit bumped up by this point, and it was actually fun. Rode up into some steeper windblown 'icy' spots to check the edge hold, and was blown away. Would not hesitate to bring these into steep tight technical terrain, based on this one observation. Wound up in some tight trees on the rib left of high boy and then popped put to finish on a somewhat bumped high boy. Last bit down was through some little chunder and on the piste. They carve just fine if you want them to. They are not slalom skis, but are surprising in their firm snow performance.

Overall impressions: Completely blown away by these skis, the shape and the weight are awesome. I love them and want them. Just need to figure out how to get this approved by the wife. I am ready to sell all of my other gear to make this happen. I will put FT12's on them and use them for most days in/out of bounds. They are light and lively, dead easy to turn, super stable and fun, fun, fun. Didn't notice any deflection because of their low weight, only seems like an advantage. Seems like a perfect everyday ski for Utah conditions. While other skis may be better in a particular category, these skis are no slouch in any category. Very impressive. Really love the feel of these skis.
I was sold before I read this.

    Bump for stoke!

Stopped into Bent Gate today (shop in Golden, CO) and asked when they'll have their 112RPs in. Dude said they were supposed to be in last week, but they still haven't arrived. I'm 99.9% sure this is the right ski for what I'm looking for. Wish I had figured this out last Spring and had gotten in on the pre-season buy.

As much as I have been pushing my wife to buy these for me this year for christmas, I think it isn't going to happen. Sounds like next year it will be possible.

If that is the case, where might one be able to demo these this winter??

I will be at Red most of the early season and then a couple weeks at either the bird or Squaw
